Head Gardener

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head Gardener at a private 400-acre, family estate based in South Leicestershire. The property features 12 acres of established formal gardens which provide excellent opportunities for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced individual.

The formal gardens are made up of lawns including fine turf, box hedging, formal beds, herbaceous borders, topiary, a pond, and small lake. There is a glasshouse for growing seeds, vegetables, and fruit. The new owners are also looking to improve and develop the existing gardens, working with an esteemed garden designer, so the successful applicant with need to be progressive and willing to collaborate with the owners and designers to bring their vision to life.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Grooming and maintaining of formal gardens.
- Maintaining lawn care and plant health including pest and disease identification, feeding, pruning, watering, and weeding.
- Collaborating with owners and designers to improve existing gardens and the implementation of planting strategies.
- Responsible for an outdoor team who carry out general garden and maintenance work.
- Adhere to agreed budgets and maintain records.
- Responsible for liaising with outdoor contractors, where necessary.
- Responsible for maintaining glasshouse and growing seedlings, vegetables, and fruit.
- Occasional support to the rest of the outdoor team where appropriate.

**What we are looking for**:

- Previous experience working as a gardener for a private family.
- Experience of working in formal gardens as well as larger estates.
- A keen eye for detail and knowledge of plants, trees, fruit, and vegetables.
- Hard working, reliable and flexible.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate.
- The ability to work independently or as part of a team.

This is a full-time role, Monday - Friday, but flexibility will be required on occasion.

Salary is negotiable dependent upon experience.
