Losing a baby at any stage in pregnancy or shortly after birth is one of the hardest things women and those close can ever face. Each journey through grief is different and being a help and support at as they try to cope with strong and often difficult emotions is a great privilege.

The post holder will be responsible for bereavement support for families and staff. They will work alongside the Lead Bereavement midwife in maintaining and improving our already high standards of bereavement care. The role will require flexible working across the whole perinatal pathway including antenatal and postnatal care as well as supporting the maternity team across the perinatal service.

The post holder will support the Band 7 Lead Bereavement Midwife in delivery of the highest standards of Bereavement care across Maternity Services at Great Western Hospital. This will include:
1. Working to support high standards of care, in line with the National Bereavement Care Pathway, in all areas of maternity care including miscarriage, pregnancy loss, palliative care planning and neonatal losses throughout the Trust including non
- maternity areas where appropriate.
1. Work alongside the Perinatal Support Service Lead to support midwives and other maternity team members with documentation and procedures, including correct registration of births and deaths where appropriate; with an understanding of the principles of Post-mortem consent with an aim of working towards good bereavement care available 7 days a week.
1. Help with ensuring families have an opportunity for memory making, by supporting staff in offering hand and foot prints, photographs, hand and foot casts (where possible), and any other deliverable requests that the families make. This would include ensuring correct stocks of memory boxes and other resources.
1. Take part in an on-call rota to be available to support for staff.
