**Glow Events are proud to be the operator of some of the most expectational wedding and events venues in Kent and are excited to be hiring and growing our experienced team.**

We are looking for full time Kitchen Porters to work across our venues, including The Orangery - Maidstone, The Gardens - Yalding and The Castle Westenhanger, Hythe.

The job role requires an average of 40 hours per week, covering 5 days out of 7, including weekend and evening times as required. Working hours may increase significantly at times, which will be able to be recouped during the year.

The role of Kitchen Porter, will be to clean our kitchens and support our cooking staff, making sure our kitchens are always sanitized and tidy. Responsibilities include washing pots and pans, keeping floors clean, sanitizing food preparation areas and occasionally helping with food prep work.

**MAIN ACTIVITIES**

On an Events day, as part of the kitchen team, you will have a key role to play. Responsibilities include:

- Cleaning and sterilising countertops, kitchen walls, stoves, ovens, grills and sinks
- Cleaning the entire kitchen once it is closed to ensure it is ready for the next day
- Maintaining the food storage areas like freezers and refrigerators
- Receiving deliveries and organising them in the kitchen
- Washing dirty dishes like cutlery, pots, cutting boards and pans or loading dishes into the dishwasher
- Removing kitchen waste from waste containers and disposing of them properly
- Cleaning and maintaining cooking equipment like cookers, pots and food mixers
- Supporting the Chef in basic food preparation like cutting ingredients, peeling and washing food items
- Providing assistance to Prep Cooks and other kitchen staff, as needed.
- When fully trained you will also be assisting the chefs in plating up meals, usually starters or desserts, under supervision.

On Non-Event days, as part of our centralised prep kitchen team, you may additionally be involved in:

- Taking in deliveries, and organising them in the correct storage areas.
- Supporting the chef team in food preparation, including mixing base ingredients for batch cooking, peeling, cutting and washing food items, measuring out ingredients and following strict recipe instructions.
- Performing regular deep cleans of the kitchen areas in which use of specialist equipment may be required.
- Keeping all refuse and waste collection areas clean and tidy.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Knowledge and Skills**
- Ability to build relationships with colleagues and suppliers (essential)
- A fast learner with an interest in kitchen work and aspirations to become a chef (essential)
- Basic preparation skills using standard kitchen utensils (desirable)
- Good organizational skills (essential)

**Experience**
- Experience of working in a fast paced, hot environment (essential)
- Several years of experience in a similar role within a kitchen (desirable)

**Qualifications and Education**
- GCSE Mathematics and English to a Grade 4 or above (essential)
- A level 2 hospitality or catering qualification or equivalent (GCSE or BTEC) (essential)
- Must have or be able to obtain a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (essential)

**Personal Requirements**
- The ability to stand for long hours (essential)
- Work diligently and have a ‘hands-on’ approach to work (essential)
- The ability to work unsupervised in a busy environment (desirable)
- Be Patient and cool-headed (essential)
- Willingness to adhere to health and safety rules (essential)
