Our client is the UK’s biggest end-to-end commercial vehicle fleet management business managing and maintaining a fleet of 80,000 vehicles across 65 garages.

They are offering an exciting opportunity for a **Payroll Specialist** to join the team on a hybrid basis, with occasional travel to their support centre in **Birmingham, **on a full-time permanent basis.

Providing an exemplary level of service to all levels of employees, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all payroll input is actioned correctly each month so that staff are paid correctly and on time. The ability to efficiently self-manage workload is key. Attention to detail when inputting payroll data is crucial, as is the ability to accurately check input when reconciling the payroll. The post holder will also need a significant knowledge of statutory rules and be able to perform manual calculations outside of the payroll system for PAYE and NI when required.

**What you’ll do**
- To drive day-to-day usage compliance and completeness of data and timesheets from the T&A system before it is processed for payroll
- Provide second line of support to the users of the system by offering solutions, creating reports, performing tasks and editing the system where it cannot be updated by the line manager
- Train managers on the basic functionality of the T&A system and reporting
- Experience providing a high level of professional administration support
- Assist the Payroll Manager in analysing data and identifying trends (excess sickness, all types of absence, overtime and manual punches by managers)
- Liaise and build strong business relationships with our Operations teams and external key stake holder
- Identify any key areas of risk/concern to the day to day running of systems
- Accurately prepare and input payroll data into the payroll database to include starters, leavers, all pay affecting data and amendments
- Input new starters schedules and accruals (holidays) the T&A system
- Deal with basic pay queries and escalate more complex queries to the Payroll Manager
- Administer and calculate staff pay, extra pay adjustments overtime, SSP, SMP, Pensions and other adjustments. Preparing off-cycle payments and CHAPS for authorisation and approval
- Prepare monthly payroll files in the T&A for payroll manager approval and submission
- Support with timely and accurate completion of the monthly payrolls
- Identify and highlight any issues with the payroll database (Zellis) and Kronos workforce ready (T&A) system and report problems to the Payroll Manager as required
- Ensure that the T&A system is accurate, up to date and calculating as it should
- Ongoing training and support of operational managers, to give them the knowledge and tools to be able to use the time and attendance system correctly, escalating to the Payroll Manager any ongoing issues that are affecting the accuracy and timeliness of colleague pay
- Keep up to date with relevant policies/regulations/statutory legislation and support the Payroll Manager with implementation of changes where necessary
- Use your knowledge of taxation and pension rules when inputting payroll data to ensure HMRC and Pension Regulator compliance
- Process annual leave and benefits change requests as required
- Perform any other duties appropriate to the post as required by the Payroll Manager
- Cover the Payroll Manager’s responsibilities when they are absent with support from the Head of Payroll & Reward

**What you’ve got**
- Five GCSE’s (A-C), including Maths and English
- Relevant higher qualifications (in Book-keeping, for example)
- Basic computer skills in Word and Excel with experience using spreadsheets and databases
- Experience working in a payroll and time and attendance role
- Relevant experience related to accounts, book-keeping, and other office works
- Experience with using Zellis - Resource link and Kronos Workforce Ready is desirable but not essential
- Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
