Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our Lung Function team.
The service is in the process of designing a purpose built department housing the majority of requirement based on one site at Cheltenham general hospital (works due to start in 2024) with an spoke location at Gloucestershire royal hospital for inpatient support.
We are also involved in the development of a Community Diagnostic Centre scheduled to open in early 2024 where Lung function testing will be provided as part of a breathlessness pathway but also sleep diagnostics will be hosted.
The department has new Lung Function testing kit and has a large sleep and ventilation service undertaking diagnostics and treatment and management in a physiology led service. We are constantly striving to improve the service and are looking for two specialist clinical physiologists to complement the team.
The post-holder will be based at Cheltenham General Hospital but will be expected to work across both GHNHST sites and any CDC’s.
- Full lung function testing
- Respiratory muscle assessment
- Earlobe capillary blood gases
- Bronchial provocation using Mannitol
- Sleep studies
The post holder will be required to support and train staff and students within the hospital and those visiting on clinical placements.
This post offers the opportunity to expand your skills and advance your career in respiratory physiology within a large district general hospital which is pursuing University Hospital status.
Ideally you will be working as a Clinical Physiologist at band 6 or 7 with significant experience working in a Lung Function service.
You should hold a BSc in Respiratory Clinical Physiology, Biological Sciences or an equivalent qualification. The possession of(or working towards) relevant professional qualifications (ARTP Practitioner exam) is essential. You should be RCCP registered or at least be eligible and working towards registration.

A spoke service will operate in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to support the inpatient caseload. We are also anticipating expansion into our first Gloucestershire Community Diagnostic Centre later this year and the holder of this post will be involved in the development of that service.
**Job summary**:
To support the head of department in the development and delivery of a high quality diagnostic lung function service across our sites. To carry out the full range of respiratory investigations and to play a key role in the development of the specialist diagnostic services, ensuring a high standard of technical work is maintained. The post holder will be involved in teaching and training.

- To perform a wide range of respiratory function tests listed below:
- Spirometry/flow volume loops
- Gas transfer measurements
- Lung volume measurements using body plethysmography
- Bronchodilator tests
- Ear lobe capillary blood gas analysis
- Bronchial challenge testing using Mannitol
- Respiratory muscle testing (MIP, MEP and SNIP) and supine/sitting spirometry
- Overnight oximetry
- Home polygraphy sleep studies and analysis
- Any other tests deemed necessary by the head of the department
