Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF SHOFA’S MARKET**

Children’s Services in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where courageous and inspiring professionals bring everything to their work.

Sometimes this even includes heartbreak. Shofa is a shining example. Shofa’s brother suffered with his mental health and died tragically young. She uses his memory as motivation to give Westminster Youth Council members the opportunity to have a voice and get involved in decision making. This passion resulted in in her innovation: The Westminster Youth Market. Here local teenagers learn about entrepreneurship and develop their personal skills. This is an inclusive platform where everyone’s contribution and abilities are celebrated. Inspired by a promising life cut short, Shofa believes without vision there is no direction and every young person should be supported to realise their dreams.

Please view the extraordinary story of Shofa’s Market **here**

**The Role**:
As a Schools and Youth Engagement Officer you can make your own powerful contribution, building and maintaining positive relationships with schools, colleges, youth clubs and local VCS youth organisations, and assisting with the delivery of our Serious Youth Violence work. Holding consultations about young people that schools are concerned about, and offering training to pupils and staff, you’ll also deliver projects that support and contribute to the work of the Integrated Gangs and Exploitation Unit.

Early intervention will be key to your success, and with this in mind you’ll provide 1-1 mentoring for young people, and act as a single point of contact for specific schools, colleges and youth organisations in relation to concerns around violence, gangs and knife crime. As part of this work you’ll provide information about how to access services and support from the Council, and identify forums for young people to engage with.

You’ll have a wide range of additional responsibilities, including supporting the engagement work of partners and stakeholders that impact on Westminster’s communities and is related to serious youth violence, and assisting with the delivery of sessions to parenting groups and schools. We’ll also expect you to communicate details about positive results in local areas to ensure it is better understood, and work with internal teams to consider appropriate media coverage. Providing information to appropriate managers so that relevant reporting can be completed, you’ll also support Gangs Link Workers in their school-based work.

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information

**About You**:
With substantial experience of building relations and working in partnership with a range of public and private sector, voluntary and community organisations, you’ll have the ability to deliver high quality presentations, training or workshops to a range of audiences. Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, we’ll also expect you to have the skills to deliver 1-1 sessions or interventions with young people.

A confident and inspirational communicator, you’ll be well organised and a good time manager with the ability to deliver high quality results to tight deadlines. It’s important that you have excellent IT skills, with a particular focus on the Microsoft Office suite of software, and you should be ready to work effectively in a politically sensitive field. This post is school term time only but you should be prepared to work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends, and occasional meetings outside normal working hours.

**What We Offer**:
Westminster is an amazing place. We are home to more than 200,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster.

Westminster City Council’s strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster. A Fairer Westminster is one in which our communities are at the heart of our decision-making and help to determine the city’s future. By working directly with our communities and other partners, we can build a more inclusive city that celebrates our diverse communities, and where residents, workers and visitors from all backgrounds will feel welcome and safe.

As a forward thinking Council we appreciate that people work in different ways, therefore our staff benefit from working a range of flexible working patterns as well as Agile working.
