**Job summary**:
- MI5 safeguards the UK against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber and sabotage. We investigate suspect individuals and organisations in the UK to obtain, collate, analyse and assess secret intelligence relating to these threats. Alongside our British Intelligence partners SIS and GCHQ, we provide the UK government with the information they need to protect national security. At MI5, you’ll enjoy varied and rewarding work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.**Job description**:
As an Associate Commercial Practitioner, you’ll work as part of a professional and efficient function delivering a range of key procurement activities. Supporting the Commercial Practitioner, you’ll develop your skills and grow your procurement knowledge while gaining valuable exposure across our three pillars:
You could be working with our **Customer Facing Teams**, managing relationships, developing commercial solutions and agreeing the future pipeline and prioritisation of the workbook. Or, you might be supporting **Commercial Delivery** within Category Teams across Technology, Estates, People and Professional Services, and the Supply Chain Security Team. We also have roles in **Commercial Operations**, with responsibility for Policy, Audit, Finance, MI and People Development.
From contract implementation, management and tendering, to partnership negotiation and budget control, you’ll contribute to a highly valued service. You’ll work with customers and suppliers as you support contract performance and delivery, and ensure we meet individual requirements as well as Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). And as your knowledge and experience grows, you’ll help improve commercial systems and processes, and ensure we continue working in line with procurement best practice.
Whether you’re managing and nurturing supplier relationships, or liaising with customers from partner agencies, across government or our overseas counterparts, you’ll provide a smooth-running, collaborative and efficient procurement service that’ll aid our mission to keep the country safe.
**Person specification**:
You don’t need a qualification in procurement to join, and there’s no minimum qualification requirement, but you’ll be willing to study towards a professional commercial qualification such as CIPS (or business equivalent). What you will have is a genuine interest in commercial, procurement and/or supply chain management, as well as experience in at least one of the following: contract management, sourcing, commercial policy and assurance, supply chain, low value procurement and invoicing, supplier management, or extensive, exceptional customer service.
You’ll also have experience of working in a role where you’ve managed contracts, sourced activity in response to demands, or worked with suppliers and other industries within a procurement environment. This includes risk identification, finance management and experience working within a team. And, with your strong communication skills, you’ll build great working relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues at both operational and senior levels.
Importantly, you’ll take a positive approach to supporting change and improvement. You’ll be a problem solver, able to identify opportunities to make our services even better while helping us overcome any potential setbacks. You’ll look to grow your skills, taking ownership of changes to your work and processes. You might have previously engaged in working groups or taken on mentoring or coaching roles - you’ll be someone keen to develop and improve your own skillset, as well as our services.
**Benefits**:
No matter your experience or background, you’ll receive dedicated support when you join. We’ll work with you to build your own progression plan, from mentorship with an assigned partner to access to a wealth of core and technical skills training. We’ll support your career growth, including the completion of relevant qualifications as you progress. In short, you’ll get all the help and guidance you need to grow a rewarding career at the heart of national security.
Plus, you’ll be working in a culture committed to your development. You’ll have an induction into the function when you start and regular check-ins with your manager throughout the year, as well as help to identify the skills and experience you need to excel. In short, you won’t be on your own - throughout your career, you’ll be surround
