The Clinical Health Psychology Service have been implementing an approach focusing on psychological wellbeing across the lifespan. The placement would span clinicians working across the ages, however will primarily be hosted within Paediatrics. The service supports children, young people and families across Torbay and South Devon when children and young people have physical health problems. We are based at Torbay Hospital in Torquay. As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the service operates a hybrid model of remote working and face to face clinics.

The paediatirc team work with children, young people and their families to support, for example, coping and adjustment to illness, adhering to medical treatment, coping with the impact of past bullying, support with developing relationships at school, managing changes (e.g., moving to a new school or to adult services). Psychological interventions focus on helping children and young people in a holistic way. This may entail individual work with parents, children, siblings or group work. We also work closely with other teams who may contribute to a childs care (e.g., health, education, children’s services).

Why work with us - Torbay Hospital provides acute care for the local community and has several community hospitals, and is a hot-spot for those who are considering living by the sea or within half an hour of Dartmoor National Park and an hour to Exmoor National Park. Meanwhile, Plymouth and Exeter are also both within a short drive to enjoy the culture, maritime history and shopping experiences.
