Clinical Support Assistant

Castleside Day Hospital is an older person’s psychiatric day hospital, providing high frequency day assessment and treatment for service users who would usually require hospital admission or home based treatment from crisis teams etc. It also provides a ‘step down’ care and treatment service after discharge from hospital if this is agreed as part of discharge plans.

The attendance numbers are currently up to 15 service users attending each day Monday-Friday and the staffing hours of the service are 08:30-16:30 with patients attending between 09:30 and 15:00.

Castleside Day Hospital has a core team of nursing staff, clinical support assistants and medical staff including Consultant Psychiatrists and trainees as well as input from Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Physiotherapy and Chaplaincy.

Working alongside the nursing staff you will support the service users throughout their attendance, running activities and monitoring how they present/engage which are a key part of the assessment process. You will also support with interventions such as chaperoning service users when attending ECT following the appropriate training and physical health checks for attendees such as general observations and weight. As part of the monitoring of service users you will also be responsible for recognises changes and escalating any concerns that you have to the wider team. Finally you will be responsible for the completion of the relevant documentation on the Rio system.

Due to the close working with service users this post requires a caring, responsive and nurturing applicant with good communication skills.

Work collaboratively with service users, carers and other professionals to provide a high standard of person centred care.

Provide compassionate care based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity at all times.

Assist with the delivery of group and individual activities within the day hospital setting.

Identify and then escalate any concerns and risks as appropriate.

Complete accurate written documentation.

Complete physical health check and appropriate escalation of any concerns.

Assist with service user mealtimes and where needed other care requirements such as toileting etc.
