**Our Submarines Business**

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.

Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.

**Senior Procurement Practitioner**

We currently have a vacancy for Senior Procurement Practitioner at our site in Barrow in Furness.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to gain a breadth of knowledge across cross functional projects and influence stakeholders to make informed decisions.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to take part in making a positive difference on the whole boat programme as this role will be at the forefront of this development.

**Your main responsibilities as Senior Procurement Practitioner will include**:

- Independently undertake procurement activity including; raising Request for Quotations, negotiating price and lead times, creating and managing purchase orders, expediting delivery and managing payments
- Undertaking supplier assessment and due diligence activity to ensure the effective selection of suppliers to meet business needs
- Recording and reporting on cost savings / cost avoidance
- Communicating with suppliers and internal / external stakeholders - resolving a wide variety of routine problems and quality issues, escalating complex / high impact issues when necessary
- Updating systems such as SAP, Teamcenter with quality, accurate information relating to the procurement activity, in accordance with document management policy and process.
- Continually review the performance of suppliers against quality, cost and delivery metrics to ensure Submarines' requirements are met and to secure improvements. - Complete cost forecasting for equipment within individual's scope.
- Supporting the team, with mínimal supervision, in the preparation of material in support of major subcontract / transactional process activity, including (but not limited to): raising requests for information, issuing invitation to tenders and contract packs, stage gate presentations, supplier down-selection, managing data deliverables, supplier visits (onsite and at supplier sites), supplier relationship management.

**Your skills and qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Previous experience in Procurement
- Knowledge of procurement principles and practices within a defence or engineering industry
- Sound understanding of negotiation and supplier management techniques
- Sound understanding of commercial aspects of contracts (with support)

**Desirable**:

- CIPS qualified or working towards this
- Experience of delivering presentations to key stakeholders
- Knowledge of contractual terms and conditions

You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders. You will also be able to work with a successful close knit team.

Travel to suppliers premises' may be required as part of the role.
