To provide both a front line clerical service to clinical staff within the Surgical Assessment Unit whilst providing “front door” style support to patients and relatives. To work independently, within set policies and procedures to provide a full range of reception and administration services within a new and busy surgical assessment Unit (SAU).

To work as a member of a Multi-Disciplinary Team dealing with patients and other visitors to the Departments. To respond to an ever-changing and unpredictable environment using the resources available to provide an efficient and effective level of customer service.

The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely inputting of patient data into the relevant clinical systems for the capturing of admission, discharge and transfer of patients, adhering to trust data quality, health records and information governance policies.

It is expected that the post-holder will manage their workload in an effective and efficient way and have a flexible approach to covering the unit and the role as it continues to develop with the ever-changing needs of the business.

1. As the first point of contact, courteously and efficiently receive all face to face and telephone enquiries from staff, patients, carers and external agencies in relation to hospital admissions, appointments and general enquiries, ensuring that accurate records, both manual and electronic, are maintained and appropriate action is taken in a timely manner.
2. Provides a ‘front door’ meet and greet service to patients, visitors and new staff, answers the telephone and deals with enquiries from hospital staff and the public concerning admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Also provide information regarding parking, refreshment facilities etc.
3. Register, admit and discharge patients using our electronic systems. Ensuring data input is correct and data quality is maintained
4. Treat individuals in a non-judgemental, respectful manner, irrespective of race, creed, gender, age, religion, personal appearance, lifestyles or behaviour.
5. The service requires the post holder to work on a rota with a requirement for this to be worked flexibly over a seven-day working week covering days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays (including Christmas and New Year).
