Family Liaison Officer

The Patient Safety Team is part of the wider Quality and Safety team. We provide support to all teams across Sirona, 5 days a week (Mon-Fri).
Do you want a new opportunity or a change of direction? Now is the right time to come and join us in the Quality and Safety Team as we develop our Sirona strategy for Patient Safety incorporating the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).
A new role within Sirona, you will work as part of the Patient Safety Team, whilst also working closely with the Experience and Complaints Team. You will be required to contact patients and their families and support them through any Patient Safety Incident investigation (PSII) or learning response.
The Family Liaison Officer will work in line with Being Open and Duty of Candour principles. You will provide support and information in a sensitive and compassionate manner, securing confidence and trust of patients, their families and carers and ensuring they are given timely information in accordance with the needs of the investigation/learning response.
You will be expected to work in close collaboration with colleagues and provide support to the wider Quality and Safety team, clinicians, and wider Sirona for all aspects of quality and safety. You should work well as part of a team and possess excellent communication skills to share the vision for Patient Safety within Sirona
Point of contact for families and carers during patient safety incident (PSII) investigations and after-action reviews (AAR).
Establishing communications with families, guide and support them through the investigation to the conclusion as required, to meet the needs of each family/ carer as is reasonably possible.
Agreeing with family members a clear communications plan/route for each individualised case.
Liaising with the Patient Safety Incident Investigator and Lead for Patient Safety about the progress of the investigation.
Creating a professional relationship of trust and honesty that will enable families to ask the questions that they wish to be answered as part of the investigation process.
Listening and managing queries in a proactive manner, signposting individuals to other services when necessary, including bereavement and other types of counselling.
Identifying areas of development and support managers to effectively communicate with families post incident, facilitating training where necessary.
Maintaining accurate records and carrying out data review and analysis to identify learning, case studies, themes and trends.
Understanding, interpretation and implementing of Duty of Candour obligations as required by the NHS Standard Contract and the Care Quality Commission regulation 20.
Working with the Experience & Complaints team in ensuring opportunities are made available for involvement
