£ 14,352 per annum for 24 hours per week

24 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 9am - 5pm

**Totnes Caring Transport Service**

Totnes Caring provides a transport service for older people who are frail, have restricted mobility or a health condition where other forms of transport are not very accessible and who live in Totnes and the surrounding areas. We can provide a door-to-door service to health appointments and to Totnes Caring social activities. Our volunteer drivers use their own cars, the Totnes Caring minibus or our Wheelchair accessible Vehicle (WAV).

Totnes Caring is looking for a lively and enthusiastic person to have overall responsibility for its Transport function and ensuring efficient and effective community transport provision is available in Totnes and the surrounding area. This role would suit someone who enjoys connecting different variables together.

**Role summary**:
To coordinate volunteers, vehicles and appointments (often with changes at short notice). Undertake a range of general administrative duties to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Transport Service provided by Totnes Caring. To coordinate and develop Totnes Caring Community Transport programmes and supporting policies and procedures.

**Tasks**:
**1. Passengers**:

- Register passengers
- Take calls for transport requests - noting special requirements for passengers
- Advertise service to potential passengers, and book appropriate transport and time slots

**2. Drivers and volunteers**:

- Construct regular timetable for drivers and keep updating as availability and transport bookings change.
- Liaise with volunteer drivers to know their availability
- Keep in touch with drivers and communicate when they are required - arrange driver for specific journeys.
- Ensure volunteer drivers feel valued and part of a team
- With Totnes Caring Volunteer Coordinator support with the recruitment of new drivers and adhere to appropriate training and induction.
- Organising training events for volunteers and WAV and minibus training - showing the volunteers how to use vehicles correctly.
- Perform the occasional drive when needed

**3. Vehicles**:

- Daily, weekly and 6 weekly checks, servicing - appropriate vehicle and mileage logs.
- Arrange charging and fuelling.
- Ensure current knowledge of laws and health and safety procedures

**4. Funders & finance**:

- Record numbers and statistics for journeys & passengers
- Write reports on Community Transport Service, including reporting to funders.
- With Totnes Caring Office Manager log all expenditure, track current funds and collect transport donations.
- Participate in local community transport networks
- **Work with other Totnes Caring service areas to coordinate transport alongside Totnes Caring activities.**:

- **Provide short term annual leave or sickness cover for other projects within the activities team.**:

- **Operate in accordance with all TC policies and procedures.**:

**Person Specification**:
Knowledge and Experience:

- Knowledge or experience of voluntary transport services
- Experience of supporting volunteers
- Experience of working in a busy/pressurised environment
- Experience of project delivery
- Relevant knowledge/experience of operating transport operation and legal responsibilities/permits
- Knowledge of the key issues relating to quality transportation and care of the elderly
- Knowledge of the range of needs of the elderly and volunteers.
- Knowledge of the key issues relating to equal opportunities including barriers to inclusion
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures of vulnerable adults
- Knowledge and experience of the principles of confidentiality

Skills and abilities:

- Ability to work under pressure.
- Willingness to drive WAV/Minibus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Computer Skills - a good working knowledge of databases and word processing
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- The ability to work under pressure
- The ability to forward plan
