Are you ready for a new challenge? Do you want to make a difference? Band 6 Acute Pain Sister role has become available at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

To ensure a high standard of care is delivered by the nursing team within the acute pain service through the provision of evidence based practice. To supervise junior staff and participate in the teaching and assessing of both qualified and unqualified staff, including students. To be accountable for their actions and decision based upon their knowledge and experience in respect of patient care. Have a responsibility to undertake any delegated duties appropriate of their band.

On-Call Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
- To ensure a high standard of care is maintained at all times through the delivery of evidence based practice
- Familiarise and use technical equipment effectively and safely to identify possible complications I.E PCA, Epidural and Wound Infusions
- The Pain Service works in collaboration with medical/surgical teams and patients experiencing pain practising to clearly defined policies.
- Developing their scope of professional practice and making autonomous decisions to meet the needs of the service.
- The post holder provides specialist pain education, training and information for patients, their careers, other health professionals, and collaboratively assists in the development of the acute pain service.
- Maintain safe administration of medicines concordant within the NMC and Trust policies.
- To enable maintenance of good record keeping and essential information regarding the patient's condition and progress is recorded by self and team members appropriately in accordance with NMC guidelines.
- To participate in audit/ bench-marking within the acute pain service, supporting any introduction of change in practice where indicated.
