The Police and Crime Commissioner is recruiting an Intern on a fixed 12 month contract. The role would suit either an undergraduate looking for a 12 month placement as part of their course, or a postgraduate who is looking for some work experience in this field.

The salary will be £20,490. The position is based at the West Mercia Police Headquarters at Hindlip Hall in Worcester.
- Engaging with the funded (commissioned) service providers to assist the commissioning team in monitoring the PCC funded services.
- Researching evidence bases for effective commissioning activity.
- Support the commissioning team to explore gaps in services for victims of crime, prevention services etc. and use these to inform future commissioning activity.

For policy:

- Undertaking research work on key areas of business regarding victims, offenders and policing.
- Preparing policy briefings for the Commissioner and his Deputy based on research and available evidence.
- Contributing to the development and delivery of the Police and Crime Commissioners West Mercia Police and Crime Plan.

With the support of our existing staff you may also be required to meet any relevant external partners and colleagues within West Mercia. You may also be required to contribute towards other work undertaken by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office and get involved in other topical projects throughout the year to deliver the Police and Crime Plan. Support and guidance will be provided.

- A basic understanding of the role of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
- An awareness of working within a politically sensitive environment.
- An interest in working within a social work, policing or criminal justice related environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills across different platforms, be comfortable using various IT systems and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

The successful individuals will need to be vetted in line with normal policing procedures before they can start the role. All other standard terms and conditions of employment will apply, including holiday entitlement and the payment of relevant expenses incurred.
