We are looking for a Histopathology Secretary to work part time at North Tyneside General Hospital.

The post is fixed term for 12 months.

The duties and responsibilities listed below are not intended to be exhaustive but are set out to indicate the main areas of activity currently expected of a Medical Secretary/MDT Meeting Secretary. Post holders will, therefore, be expected to adopt a flexible approach when required by the needs of the service
- Providing comprehensive secretarial service to Consultant Histopathologists and supporting teams. This will include typing and audio typing reports as well as distribution. Preparing and collating information for meetings.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
- To provide a comprehensive Medical Secretarial service to the Consultant Histopathologists and their supporting teams. The department provides Histopathology, Cytology and Post Mortem services to Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust and local GPs, which includes the typing and distribution of Histology/Cytology reports.
- To provide administrative/secretarial support, preparing and collating histology information from list supplied by MDT Co-ordinators, for the Histopathologists’ attendance at the MDT meeting across the Trust in line with National Cancer Standards/Cancer Waiting Time Targets.
- To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Liaise with other Histopathology secretaries to ensure there are no delays in post mortem report typing and other Histology dictations.
