**JOB PURPOSE**:
To guide and plan the strategic development and overall direction of the organisation, providing strong, innovative leadership and co-ordination to ensure the strategic aims, goals and objectives of the organisation are achieved.
To ensure the organisation secures the necessary financial resources and is managed in an effective and economic manner.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Strategic**:
- Advise the Board of Trustees on the development of One Community to respond to changing needs, including ensuring that there are relevant strategic plans and annual objectives in line with One Community’s vision and values.
- Lead the management and staff team on the implementation of the strategic and annual plans, and ensure that appropriate measures of performance management, quality assurance, monitoring, user feedback and evaluation are carried out.
- Develop and play a major role in local strategic partnership working and the development of community strategies.
- Lead on long term development programmes.
- Advise and liaise with the Chair over strategy, strategic issues, and major new initiatives.
**Governance**
- Ensure that the Board of Trustees is properly serviced and supported by One Community, working closely with the officers.
- Ensure effective risk management planning, in conjunction with the Trustees.
- Assist the Board of Trustees to ensure appropriate recruitment, selection, induction, and training procedures for Trustees are in place and followed.
- Act as Company Secretary.
**Finance and Resources**
- Ensure that One Community has adequate human, material, and financial resources to carry out its objectives. Lead the funding strategy to enable this.
- Ensure that the financial and capital resources of One Community are properly managed and accounted for.
- Ensure that appropriate structures, policies, and procedures are in place for the management of all One Community staff and volunteers; and that all One Community staff and volunteers are fully trained and developed in their roles.
**Leadership and Developmental Management**
- Lead the senior management team and line manage other staff as appropriate.
- Provide appropriate leadership, support, and management to all senior managers.
- Ensure all senior managers are provided with opportunities to grow and develop in their roles.
- Convene and chair regular Senior Management Team meetings
- Recruit and appoint, and where necessary dismiss, senior management team members in conjunction with the Chair.
**Legal and quality standards**
- Advise the Board of Trustees on policies and procedures necessary for the organisation and ensure their implementation.
- Ensure that One Community complies with all statutory requirements including charity and company law, health and safety, employment legislation and risk-based regulation as set out by the Charity Commission guidelines.
- Ensure that One Community implements and promotes equal opportunities, equality, and diversity both internally and in-service delivery.
- Ensure that One Community carries out the functions of a CVS and can demonstrate working that meets the NAVCA or other relevant quality standards.
- Acquire and maintain relevant quality standards and accreditations.
- Act as the Safeguarding Lead (SL) for the organisation
**Service delivery**
- Take part in regular oversight of service delivery.
- Ensure annual evaluation of services with the Chair and Board of Trustees
- Identify development and funding opportunities for One Community, including new projects or consultancy work, and lead in pursuing these.
- Maintain an oversight of One Community’s complaints procedure and its operation.
- Keep abreast of current social, economic, political, environmental trends and be alert to opportunities and risks.
**Partnership Working**
- Proactively develop close working relationships and partnerships, and ensure there is effective communication with the statutory, business, voluntary and community sectors
- Represent the interests and concerns of the voluntary and community sector in policy and service development consultations.
- Take a leading role in the identification of issues relating to social inclusion and promote the interests of vulnerable or excluded sections of the community.
- Work with staff and partner organisations to identify unmet needs in the community and voluntary sector. Advise the Board on opportunities for development work by One Community alone or in partnership, or for referral to other voluntary organisations.
- Work in partnership with the CVS Network and other voluntary organisations at county level and where appropriate regionally and nationally
- Actively network, strengthening partnerships and researching new opportunities.
