**Job summary**:
The Station Health & Safety Officer (SHSO) is responsible for the provision of specialist advice and guidance to the Station Commander (Stn Cdr) on all aspects of Health and Safety (H&S) at RAF Lossiemouth. The SHSO’s main role will be supporting the delivery of the RAF Lossiemouth Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS), including support to Air Safety, Environmental Protection, Continuous Improvement, Quality Assurance, Fire Safety and Food Safety matters, where issues overlap with H&S arrangements. The SHSO will work closely with the other members of the Safety Centre to deliver the SEMS on behalf of the Stn Cdr.

This post is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The post holder will be responsible for:
Investigating relevant health and safety hazards and referring pertinent matters to the Stn Cdr

The management of the Functional Safety Information Management System (FSIMS) and the Defence Unified Reporting and Lessons System (DURALS), ensuring that all reports are completed fully, in compliance with Data Protection Act, suitable investigations are carried out and recommendations identified and tracked.

The analysis and trending of FSIMS and DURALS reporting to identify key risks.

The continual improvement of the RAF Lossiemouth SEMS; working to increase H&S safety reporting and reduce the occurrence of H&S incidents and near misses.

Organising and carrying out all H&S and welfare audits and safety inspections of all workplaces, within the Stn Cdrs area of responsibility. Providing audit reports and providing and tracking recommendations arising from the audit.

The maintenance of accidents and dangerous occurrence records, causal factors, and consequential recommendations.

Coordinating the H&S training requirements and the management of training documentation.

Ensuring that appropriate H&S information is promulgated to appropriate stakeholders and all relevant SharePoint sites are kept up to date.

The risk manager for the RAF Lossiemouth Functional Safety Risk Register on PARMIS (Performance & Risk Management Information System). The review of safety reporting and assurance activity to identify areas of risk.

The coordination, delivery and secretariat of the RAF Lossiemouth Functional Safety Working Group and the Health and Safety Working Group

Preparation for the RAF Lossiemouth Functional Safety Command Group and higher-level Functional Safety Meetings

Monitoring compliance with H&S regulation to provide assurance to the Stn Cdr that activities are conducted in accordance with extant regulation for Safe Systems of Work and Safety Places of Work and highlighting areas of risk and prohibiting any work activity that involves an imminent risk of serious personal injury.

Operating an on-call system (mobile telephone) to provide support in the event of a serious incident on Stn.

Act as the Station Hearing Conservation Officer, Radiation Safety Officer, and Laser Safety Officer.

The line management of the Assistant SHSO.
