Consultant Frailty/ Elderly Medicine

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) are looking to appoint a consultant as part of an expansion in our frailty services. This post will have a commitment to out of hours working for the elderly virtual ward and acute frailty unit. The post is for 10PA, which includes a 1 in 10 weekend working for the acute frailty team. People who are interested in Less than full time working are encouraged to apply.

You will be joining a dynamic and enthusiastic team of 12 Consultant geriatricians with complementary skills, and with special interests in acute care, community rehabilitation, movement disorders, stroke medicine, orthogeriatrics, continence, dementia, falls and polypharmacy. We are also supported by three specialist advanced clinical practitioners and 4 registrars, as well as a diverse and highly valued multidisciplinary team, who share our passion for delivering high quality person-centred care. As a geriatrician, you will also work closely with colleagues in acute and general medicine, and in the Emergency Department. We are a provider of undergraduate medical school education for the University of Leeds and have a thriving research community. We have been proud to develop our Frailty Faculty, which helps to spread education about frailty to the wider trust and community teams.

North Yorkshire has an ageing population, with 24.2% of the population in 2018 being over the age of 65. Projections indicate that the population in the over 85 age group is expected to increase in Harrogate by approximately 30% by 2025. HDFT provide both acute and community services, so in conjunction with our partners, we are in a great position to strengthen our frailty pathways from the front door of the hospital to our patients homes.

The Spa town of Harrogate is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales, with excellent facilities in the area for sports and outdoor activities. There is a healthy nightlife with a number of popular bars and restaurants within the town centre and the city hosts a number of annual events such as The Yorkshire Show, The Annual Flower Show and several sporting events. Major cities Leeds and York are conveniently close. The area also offers a choice of outstanding local schools.
