Fortis is a leading producer of IBAA (Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate), producing a sustainable aggregate which has been widely used in construction for over 20 years, and has been approved by the Environment Agency, Highways England and a number of local authorities. Fortis IBAA is a high quality aggregate product produced from waste that would otherwise go to landfill, helping to preserve natural resources, lower carbon footprint of construction and divert municipal waste from landfill.

**Responsibilities**

**Key/Essential**:

- Carry out and oversee tiered groundwater and surface water risk assessments for each potential IBAA supply site in the UK.
- Develop robust conceptual site models, sourcing and using relevant ground conditions data from published sources and site investigations, IBAA product data, development design and engineering details information.
- Train, develop and check work of Geo-environmental Assessor.
- Use geological and hydrogeological knowledge to feed into technical and performance management of IBAA aggregates.
- Present and communicate benefits, performance and environmental aspects of IBAA use to technical and non-technical audiences including commercial partners, customers, engineers and regulators.

**Additional/desirable**:

- Quantitative controlled waters risk assessments including groundwater contaminant transport modelling and surface water quality risk assessments.
- Develop and refine processes for site suitability assessment to respond to changes in guidance & legislation, and knowledge development from source term testing of IBAA and other research output.
- Devise and manage research and development projects aimed at maximising value in IBAA while minimising environmental risk.
- Represent Fortis IBA Ltd within UK working technical groups, consisting of industry and regulatory authorities.

**Qualifications and Capabilities**

**Essential**:

- A minimum of 5 years relevant post-graduate experience.
- Work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals and stakeholders (clients, Local Authorities, Environment Agency).
- Excellent communication, written and verbal.
- Ability to communicate complicated scientific ideas and principles to a non-technical audience.

**Desirable**:

- Experienced in preparing technical reports for qualitative and quantitative controlled waters risk assessment.
- Excellent knowledge of common analytical modelling packages including ConSim and the Environment Agency/DEFRA guidance on risk assessment for environmental permits.
- Chartered Membership of relevant professional body.
- Knowledge of aggregates standards and testing requirements/methods.
