Job description

Harris Hill is recruiting for a Head of Finance for this Environmental and Historic Charity based in Bedfordshire.
- Salary: £60,000pa - £65,000pa
- Position: Full Time 5 days a week Position.
- Hybrid Working: 4 days a week is required at their offices in Bedfordshire, with 1 day working from home.
- Reports to: Executive Director
- Direct Reports: Accounts & Payroll Supervisor; Accounts Assistant
- Part of the SLT
- Qualified Accountants only

Purpose of the Job

Operations:

- Oversight of HR matters for the Trust. This will largely comprise payroll, with each line manager expected to undertake recruitment and basic HR duties. An external HR resource is used for non-standard requirements.
- Oversight of the Trust's outsourced IT provision, and any internal IT resourcing requirements.
- Management of the Trust's administration team (currently 1 headcount), including oversight and leadership for the Trust's Board clerking function.
- Oversight of the Trust's relationship with the external land agent, its banks (including its debt), and its investments via external investment managers.
- As a member of the SLT and in liaison with the other members of the management team, responsible jointly for securing the success of the Trusts operations, setting targets, etc.
- Reporting into the Chair of the Board.
- To act as Company Secretary to the Trust and its trading subsidiaries

Budgets
- To prepare the annual budgets in conjunction with the senior management team, for approval by the Board of Directors.
- To carry out regular reporting of actual versus budget reports for Directors and Budget Holders, reporting on significant variances as necessary.

Strategy and cash management
- Assist with the development of future strategy through preparation and maintenance of rolling financial forecasts of income, expenditure and cash flow balances.
- To ensure the charity has adequate cash resources, negotiating bank facilities as appropriate.

Management accounts and reporting
- Produce management accounts and all other financial reports as requested.
- Attend relevant committee meetings, to report on finances and forecasts.

Audit
- Prepare Statutory Accounts prior to audit visit, and to facilitate the audit process in conjunction with the appointed provider.

Process and procedures
- To supervise the Accounts team and its processes.
- To maintain an overview of the payroll and its processes.
- Maintain credit control procedures and avoid exposure to bad debts.

Compliance and administration
- Reconcile PAYE/NI/VAT liability and ensure payments are made on time.
- To ensure the Charity is compliant with all legal obligations within official deadlines.
- To identify and report without delay any financial irregularities/discrepancies/potential fraud.
- Ensure tendering (best/price) approaches are adopted.
