The Secretariat Policy Officer role is an important role within the team it sits in, the teams look at providing secretariat support for the A400M and Voyager aircraft platforms, it is an exciting opportunity to gain a broad understanding of air defence platforms as you work to support the portfolio of these aircraft.

You will gain exposure into how international defence collaboration programmes function, providing you with an understanding of parliamentary process and defence accountability, as well as media operations and communications as you help to promote Defence Equipment and Support alongside the portfolio team.

This position provides you with a path to develop your skillset within the secretariat specialism, allowing for continued professional development opportunities to expand upon your knowledge and experience, with training available within the role giving you a great chance to progress and grow your career.

Please note that attendance to site will be expected, when necessary, dependant on organisational requirements.

**Person specification**
- Support the drafting and preparation of a range of Secretariat outputs including answers to formal questions raised in Parliament (oral and written), responses to Ministerial and Treat Official Correspondence and other briefing materials to support Ministers and senior staff and manage DE&S reputational issues.
- Assist more senior members of staff in a range of functional outcomes such as supporting the drafting of briefing material for Parliamentary Select Committee business and debates.
- Support the drafting of submissions which seek Ministerial decisions on matters affecting DE&S business.
- Handle requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act, ensuring adherence to statutory requirements.
- Engage with stakeholders to ensure timeliness of response, factual accuracy, and coherency of approach.
- Manage the workflow of Parliamentary and Freedom Of Information business and maintain statistical records.
- Manage the progress of corporate and investment decisions and performance.
- Assist in handling media enquiries (escalating where necessary), in conjunction with DE&S Corporate Communications and Directorate of Defence Communications, to support the public presentation of DE&S issues.
- Undertake administrative tasks to support the team and senior management including, organising meetings, taking minutes and preparation of materials.

- Previous stakeholder management with the ability to form working relationships.
- A high level of written English.
- Demonstrable ability to work to deadlines.
- Ability to collate and condense information into a presentable format.
