**About the Role**

This is an exciting role for a leader to manage a team focusing on improving the attendance of our most vulnerable children in school.

Cornwall Council are looking to commission a dedicated team of skilled Integrated Education Officers lead by a manager with extensive experience of working with multi-agencies and in the areas of education, social care and health.

A Team Lead is required to manage the Integrated Education Team who will work with schools, pupils and families to resolve issues of persistent absence, particularly for children with social care involvement or those in care.

The workers will provide an intensive support service over 4 weeks for a small number of young people at a time. This team will provide support in conjunction with education effectiveness teams with whom they will be based, school staff, the virtual school, pupils and parents to identify problems and possible solutions.

The dedicated team will support families and schools by working with pupils persistently absent to decrease school absence across Cornwall and will do this by:

- Meeting with school staff, school pupils and parents (and other professionals as appropriate) to identify problems and possible solutions.
- Making home visits to provide time limited intensive work with families to ensure attendance improves.
- Helping families to receive all the benefits and help they are entitled to, for example financial help with school meals, transport and clothing.
- Supporting schools in making referrals to other agencies, such as social care, educational psychologists, health professionals or other agencies including the voluntary sector.
- Encouraging and supporting parents to make good relationships with the school.
- Completing administrative tasks such as writing up case notes and recording on appropriate management information systems.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role may have been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g., from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

**About you**

We are looking for an innovative, creative, highly skilled person to support this new team. You should have a qualification in Leadership/Management or, have proven experience in managing and leading a team, and be able to work within a wider team to promote a culture of opportunity for all children and young people to enable access to appropriate educational entitlement. The role will be exciting and challenging and requires good supervisory and organisational skills.

Being self-motivating and having ability to work independently as well as part of a team is essential.
