**THE ROLE**

We have an opportunity for a Legal Counsel to provide legal support, and to assist in the provision of oversight of legal risk, to the Bank and its product and support teams. There will be a particular focus on supporting non-transactional matters impactingthe organisation including regulatory matters (including Freedom of Information, data and information sharing) and advising on internal and external policies). This role will also support the activities of the wider Legal and Governance team.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate in the Legal & Governance team, you will be expected to work closely with relevant product and support teams across the Bank on a range of corporate and commercial matters, data issues, marketing and communications,operations and projects, governance and policies.

To be successful in this role, you will have a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience as well as knowledge and experience in one or more of corporate, commercial, financial regulation/funds or financial services e.

You must have good technical skills with knowledge of, or a willingness and a capability to learn, a range of products and issues and risks impacting a complex, state-owned financial services organisation.

Knowledge of one or more of State aid and/or financial regulation, public law, freedom of information, data protection, judicial review, procurement law are also essential, andexperience in areas of law applicable to the public sector (e.g public law, freedomof information, judicial review) and more widely (e.g data protection) would be highly desirable, along with experience of managing external counsel and or experience of working in the legal department of a central government department, an arm’s length bodyor other public sector body.

Experience of managing legal challenge and stakeholder/supplier complaints would also be a distinct advantage.
