Head of Whoosh

About the role
Tesco Online is the biggest online grocer in the UK and one of the largest in the world, recently reaching over £6 billion. Digital growth is core to Tesco’s future strategy and this role is pivotal in defining and leading a key element of that plan, the Whoosh business, offering Tesco customers an on demand, same day delivery service.
You will be responsible for
- Defining the 3-5 year ambitions and direction for the Whoosh business, including partnering with the Product and UX teams to define the end-to-end customer experience.
- Growing market share through delivering the expected Whoosh sales growth in line with budget.
- Managing and improving our end-to-end on-demand fulfilment operations including store expansion, picking operations and working with our 3rd party delivery providers
- Ensuring an on-going smooth run of our on-demand operations, accounting for seasonal impacts (i.e., Christmas, extreme weather, etc.)
- Ensuring constant improvement of our Online trading content and overall end-to-end web and app experience
- Developing our on-demand Media income stream
- Improving Whoosh P&L year on year to contribute to the profitability of the total Online business.
- Delivering a great experience for Whoosh customers.
- Working with Insight and Commercial teams to define our range and price strategies.
- Leading an agile business squad, supporting with the adoption of agile ways of working and providing clarity through OKRs
- Developing and leading a high performing cross-functional team, giving them opportunities to be their best
You will need
**Operational skills relevant for this job**:
- Understanding of online business models and economics.
- Strong strategy development as well as analytical skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to bridge between strategic thinking and pragmatic implementation
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills
- Good commercial acumen and understanding
- Strong communication and storytelling skills
- Ability to influence at all levels
- Broad stakeholder management, including executive levels
**Experience relevant for this job**:
- Team management and development, ideally of a multi-function team
- Record of effective planning and delivery of cross-functional initiatives
- Demonstrated leadership of an ecommerce, or major digital initiative
- The role has exposure to senior stakeholders and would suit someone who is comfortable working collaboratively and cross functionally to define, build, then lead a complex business.
