**Job Title**: Waking Night Residential Childcare Practitioner

**Location**: Curdworth, North Warwickshire

**Salary**: £11.75-12.75 per hour

**Job Type**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

**Shifts**: 10-hour and 12-hour shifts

**Schedule**: Monday to Friday, Night Shift, Weekend Availability

**Experience**: 1 year in Residential Care working with Children and Young People (preferred)

We are seeking dedicated and vigilant Waking Night Residential Childcare Practitioners to join our team at Care2Care. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for providing support and ensuring the safety and well-being of the young people in our care during the night hours.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Night Duties**: The shift starts at 10:00 PM and ends at 8:00 AM. Waking night staff are required to stay awake during these hours.
- **Handover and Observation**: Arrive at least half an hour early for a comprehensive handover. Perform observation checks to ensure all young people are in their rooms. Document any relevant information, such as anticipated return times, risks, or issues since the last shift.
- **Familiarization**:Familiarize yourself with any new young people and their specific needs. Be aware of any appointments they need to attend.
- **Maintenance and Housekeeping**: Identify and report maintenance issues, such as non-functioning lightbulbs or door locks. Ensure the house is cleaned and sanitized regularly, including mopping the floors and cleaning bedding and kitchenware.
- **Stay Awake**: Maintain wakefulness throughout the night. Falling asleep may result in a reduction in hourly wage and disciplinary action.
- **Documentation**: Log all movements and conversations, especially during night hours. Perform regular welfare checks on young people to ensure their safety and well-being.
- **Training**: Undertake fire marshal training, food hygiene, and first aid courses as required. Complete mandatory training within one month and provide certificates to the house manager.
- **Security**: Keep keys on a keychain during your shift and ensure their safe handover at the end of the shift. Enforce visitor policies, including ID checks and background verifications.
- **Fire Drills**: Conduct mock fire drills during the night to familiarize young people and staff with evacuation procedures.
- **Tidiness**: Maintain a tidy environment and provide a thorough handover, including information about medications and sharp objects.
- **Shift Accountability**: Documentation will be reviewed by the shift leader before staff members are released at the end of their shift.
- **Visitor Policy**: No visitors are allowed in the unit after 9/10 PM. Strictly adhere to the visitor policy and security protocols.
