Job overview

The preterm birth support worker will support the preterm birth clinics and the clinicians in the clinics, provide personalised information to women at risk of preterm birth or who have had a preterm birth, to support early breastmilk for preterm babies and inform women of the benefits of early breastmilk in a supportive manner. They will assist clinicians with tasks as appropriate including optimal cord management and chaperoning cervical length scanning.

They will work to support equity across the system and ensure that cross service maternity care will be as seamless as possible for women at risk of preterm birth. This will include working to ensure the regional IUT guidance is fully embedded and monitored and embedding quantitative fetal fibronectin once available.

For the purposes of this project, optimisation includes (BAPM):
Timely steroid administration

Timely magnesium sulfate administration

Intrapartum antibiotics

For the purposes of this project, stabilisation includes (BAPM):
Optimal cord management

Early breastmilk

Main duties of the job

**Clinical**:

- Understand the Trust’s key priorities, values and objectives and support implementation of these within the Preterm birth service
- To work within a multi-disciplinary team providing the preterm birth service and alongside external agencies where indicated
- To ensure that care given is evidence based, monitored, evaluated and is offered and delivered to the appropriate cohort of patients
- To support the implementation and monitoring of compliance with Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle version 3 element five - Reducing Preterm Birth
- To provide support to the pre-term birth service and be a knowledgeable and supportive resource for staff advising on national, local and Trust policy, procedure and guidelines
- Support the dissemination of information and the sharing of good practice.
- Act as a resource for all health professionals seeking information on preterm birth and the optimisation and stabilisation
- Support QI projects related to PTB such as BAPM extreme prematurity and perinatal optimisation toolkit, matneosip**.**

**Education**:

- To provide support and participate in the teaching of MSWs and midwives, students and new members of staff who join the team, and the wider service
- To provide support to midwives, nurses, students and clinicians within the Trust and from other regional units
- To support with the implementation of quantitative fetal fibronectin
