**About the Role**:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced scientist with practical knowledge of cancer molecular biology and genetics, and understanding of precision oncology to join our COSMIC team as a Clinical Curator. This position is a permanent contract.

**You will be responsible for**:

- Reviewing scientific literature, in combination with COSMIC somatic mutation data, to identify genes shown in independent research studies to be affected by pathogenic mutations in specific cancer types, and to delineate their cancer type-specific mutation profiles.
- Critically exploring peer-reviewed scientific literature and COSMIC data to find reproducible, robust evidence of an association in cancer between gene molecular attributes and clinical parameters such as prognosis and treatment response.
- Identifying, assessing, and utilising sources of information and methodologies used to establish how a gene's molecular attributes inform clinical decision-making.
- Contributing to the ongoing development of COSMIC's Cancer Gene Census and associated hallmarks of cancer annotations

**About Us**:
COSMIC (Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer) is the key information source in global human cancer research. We exist to speed up the field of precision oncology so that each cancer patient can receive tailored treatment. We do this by streamlining and simplifying cancer genomics data analysis to expedite the translation of research findings to improvements in the care of cancer patients.

To achieve our vision, we are growing rapidly in content, scope and value. This role is due to the evolution and expansion of our web services and products to enable this growth. We make a real difference to scientific research and to cancer patients around the world.

**About You**:
Using your knowledge and expertise you will critically explore scientific literature clinical trial repositories, conference proceedings, and other public sources for genes and genetic variants to support research into personalised cancer patient management. This role will give you the opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

**Essential Skills**:

- PhD in a biological or medical science
- Knowledge of cancer biology and genetics
- Capability to interpret and critically appraise data presented in scientific literature
- Experience in interpreting the results of molecular and cell biology laboratory assays
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and organise own workload
- Able to consider broad project needs when prioritising their own tasks
- Good written and oral communication skills

**Desirable Skills**:

- Experience in working with clinical vocabulary systems and ontologies
- Experience of biocuration
- Familiarity with -omic analyses

**Other Information**:
**Salary per annum: £43,597-£51,794 **(Dependent upon skills and experience)

**Hybrid Working**:2 days per week on site, however we anticipate initially you will spend more time on Campus in order to complete training and to build relationships with the team.
