NHS Ayrshire and Arran has made significant investment in radiological services as part of a programme of improvement supporting the redesign of "front door" emergency services and delivery of the 18 weeks referral to treatment standard. The aim is to enhance local service infrastructure to deliver timely and integrated radiological support to clinical teams. Two Consultant Radiology posts are offered at University Hospital Ayr and successful applicants will be working across both sites.

The imaging departments at both University Hospitals Crosshouse and Ayr are well equipped each having a 1.5T MR scanner, 128 slice CT’s, Ultrasound, Digital Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine and Mammography. Both hospitals utilise the national PACS system along with the Soliton RIS.

Teleradiology is available for on-call and flexible working is encouraged. The directorate has been proactive in reviewing skill mix and developing extended radiographer roles.

There are excellent on-site educational and library facilities. The hospitals receive trainees from the West of Scotland Radiology Training Scheme. Ayrshire is one of the most scenic regions of Scotland with excellent recreational facilities first class transport links and offers excellent housing and schooling and serves a population of 375000. Services are delivered from two linked District General Hospitals Crosshouse (539 beds) and Ayr (353 beds) within a single medical imaging directorate.

The successful applicants will join the existing complement of 21 Radiologists in Ayrshire. At present each hospital operates its own on-call rota. The delivery of the on-call service is currently under review. There is a well-established outsourcing overnight on-call to a nighthawk service.

The successful applicants should possess the FRCR (or equivalent). Applicants must have Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice.
