An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our finance team as Head of Finance - Capital & Systems. The successful postholder will manage the capital and systems accounting team and is responsible for their performance and development.

The Head of Finance - Capital & Systems manages the capital and systems accounting team and is responsible for their performance and development.

The role has an overall responsibility for managing the Trust’s capital programme, ensuring that a robust capital plan is developed, monitored, reported and delivered. It is also responsible for the day-to-day management of the finance systems, including maintenance, support and development of the systems to ensure that robust financial data is produced on a timely basis and is a key contributor to audit, planning and reporting as part of the wider finance team.

Our specialist services include HIV, cardiology, blood disorders, diabetes, fertility, sickle cell and thalassemia. In addition to a full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre is based on-site and provides services to support cancer patients’ wellbeing.

We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

Team management and development

Provide management and leadership to the capital and systems accounting function to ensure that staff fulfil their objectives and continuous improvement is embedded in line with the Trust’s Patient First improvement system. This will include ensuring clarity of purpose, achievement of deadlines and maintenance of required standards, as well as personal and career development. To include the recruitment, retention and training of staff.

Play a key role in the development of the wider finance team as part of the Senior Leadership Team, including providing training / briefings to colleagues on key aspects of capital finance.

Manage the capital and systems accounting function such that accounting records are maintained to the highest standards to enable the requirements of the Trust’s Statutory Auditor to be met. Ensures the integrity of the Trust’s financial ledger through the management of the Trust’s control accounts and financial systems.

Develop and enhance the staff within these departments, to ensure a consistently professional approach to the tasks required of them. Ensure that all service users both within and external to the Trust receive an appropriate level of service. Ensure staff maintain adequate working papers and other documentation to support their work and enable review by both internal and external organisations, eg audit.

Motivate, and monitor staff performance within the PDP and Appraisal framework.

Assist in the implementation of the Trust’s policy regarding staff performance review. This process will include the identification and implementation of staff development opportunities.

Capital Business Partnering / Financial Planning

Working with the operational Director of Finance, Associate Director of Finance and other lead Trust Officers in the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive and approved short, medium and long term capital programme withing the Trust. Lead responsibility for the monitoring of this capital programme during the year and the reporting to key Trust Committees.

Complete the production of monthly capital schedules to present to the Trust board and its various sub committees as is appropriate. The post holder will co-ordinate and attend the Trust Capital Working Group as a matter of routine, co-ordinate the meeting and papers, provide analysis, advice and recommendations to the group based on the post holders professional expertise.

To act as the finance lead to provide expert technical advice and support in the development and production of strategic business cases and delivery of the Trust’s capital programme.

Provide technical advice on production and development of business cases, including leading on the production of financial / economic analysis and supporting external funding bids.
