Job Duties:
Are you looking for flexible work which supports families and schools across Herts?

You can play a part in ensuring that the School Admissions Appeals process is carried out in line with legislation but bringing a human touch to a sometimes-difficult process.

Our well-regarded School Appeals Service is looking for two School Appeals Clerks to support the school admissions appeals process.

Working remotely, the role is flexible with a 'peak’ season in the summer term in which you would be offered as much work as you would like

Responsibilities include reading school/parental statements, explaining the process to parties, supporting parties to participate in the virtual appeals, taking detailed minutes of appeals and writing up decision letters.

The role is varied and interesting with no two appeals being the same. You will work with parents and schools, some of which will be very emotional, and you will need to be able to empathise with them.

On an average day, you may have 10 appeals to be heard initially, with one dropping out on the day, one with an interpreter, and two which are siblings. You will need to support the volunteer panel to manage this effectively, empathetically and in line withthe relevant legislation.

You’ll need to be highly organised with excellent oral communication skills, and the ability to write detailed decision letters which are clear for all to understand.

We will only be recruiting those who can demonstrate empathy for all the parties, but who also have the confidence to support the panel in the decision-making process, whilst remaining independent.

This role is perfect for a 'people’ person, who needs flexibility and the ability to work from home. You can make a real difference to families and schools across Hertfordshire.
