Trade Compliance Specialist

The Role;
The Trade Compliance Specialist EMEA position is to support the Logistics Manager as part of the International Trade Compliance Team in insuring that the importing, exporting, supply chain security activities of Garmin within EMEA comply with all local governmental laws and regulations.
You will be expected to evaluate import and export activities, recommend process efficiency measures and ensure these comply with departmental procedures.
In addition support and attend regular periodic compliance reviews and assist in developing, documenting and implementing customized import, export controls and supply chain security compliance training programs for internal and external stakeholders within the region.
Key Duties:
- Ensure the daily team activities comply with policies and procedures compliant with import, export and supply chain security laws and regulations. These activities include Denied Party Lists (DPL), Inward Processing Relief (IPR), First Sale for Export (FSFE) and Outward Processing Relief (OPR).
- Responsible for monitoring imports from all Garmin and 3rd Party suppliers, providing clearance instructions and control of customs clearance with freight forwarders.
- To coordinate the Direct Ship programme in consultation with the dedicated carrier, to ensure timely clearance and integrated export procedures are implemented. Optimise cost effectiveness by choosing the most advantageous shipping method.
- Accurate use of the Oracle ERP system and the Ricardo Duty Management system to ensure Customs integrity is constantly maintained.
- Carry out regular bonded warehouse stock controls vs. Oracle stock levels.
- Maintain good working relationships and cooperate actively with internal and external customers and business partners as well as HMR&C and government agencies to execute import and export best practices.
- To accurately classify new products with the correct Harmonised Tariff Code (HTS) by using the Integrated Tariff of HMR&C or Business Link.
- Working closely with Finance and Sales Admin teams to maintain process and procedures integrity and to keep track of archived shipping and customs documentation for customs and financial audit trail purposes.
- Taking part and support external periodic reviews, audits and assessments of corporate and supply chain security activities. Carry out regular internal customs audit report as required by AEO status.
- Working pro-actively by, taking part in any new custom’s and supply chain initiatives (AEO, Known Consignor, IPR, OPR, FSFE, CFSP, Denied party list, Customs quota).
- Support other global and internal Supply Chain team activities (Oracle regular and periodic internal Inventory controls ,monitoring ,receiving and provide support with inquires regarding incoming receipts from 3rd party suppliers on Oracle)
- Keeping up to date on new EU customs procedures and international trade developments. Participate in training to maintain knowledge of specialized information and identify any regulation or industry changes affecting company business.
Education & Experience;
- Higher qualifications in International Trade, Import and Export or other related field
- Must have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills to work across functional and organizational lines
- Good communication skills (verbal ,written)
- Previous computer experience. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Analytical disposition
- Must be a team player, possess a positive attitude and work well with others.
- Must be flexible and able to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks and have time - management attitude.
- Being detail oriented.
- General knowledge and experience with import/export (international trade) procedures.
- Previous experience within and import/export environment and / or an audit compliance environment
