**The role**
RCN Officer RCN Exeter Office with hybrid working, 35 hours per week Fixed term for 12 months (cover of the substantive post holder) £47,745 to £53,934 per annum* Imagine being faced with a world of exciting possibilities that could ultimately enable you to support our members and help shape the nursing workforce of now, and the future. As the UK’s largest trade union and professional body for nursing, we support over half a million members with unwavering loyalty and total commitment. We represent and develop them, support their practice and lobby on their behalf to make a positive difference to their working lives. As a trusted adviser, mediator and advocate you’ll be just as passionate about supporting our members in the South West Region region, mainly within the Cornwall area. It’s a challenging role that requires determination and resilience, and it’s also a role that offers genuine satisfaction and opportunities to develop. We're accredited with Investors in People Silver Standard. Our people are our greatest asset, and we want people who can contribute to our purpose in line with our values. As an RCN officer you’ll use your positive attitude and your knowledge of health and care issues to deliver best practice in relation to employment practices, influencing and negotiating on behalf of our members. Every day will be filled with possibilities as you find new ways to manage and support the development of our members and our accredited representatives. You will manage your own portfolio of casework, which will include assisting and representing members with employment related issues and processes. Supporting our valued members will be your primary role, but you’ll also see the potential that our members have. A key part of your role will be to suggest innovative approaches to recruiting and developing representatives within our region.
**The person**
To join us you’ll need to be able to advise and represent our members on matters relating to employment, professional practice, and education. Ideally, you will have a background in a relevant area such as health and social care and experience in supporting individuals or groups with work related issues. However, we recognise that experience in other professional roles (such as human resources and legal services) can offer transferable skills and knowledge for this role. We offer a robust induction and development plan for successful individuals to enable transition into the role. You will need to have good communication skills, be able to challenge and negotiate skilfully, with the ability to work with a range of stakeholders across a variety of health and care settings. To succeed at the Royal College of Nursing all you need to do is think bigger, better and brighter. And with an attitude like that, anything’s possible. What we offer you We expect you to look after our members. And we expect you to be rewarded for it. We offer an impressive range of benefits, a broad range of learning development opportunities and an award-winning health and wellbeing programme. We offer annual leave up to 32 days plus bank holidays and three additional days for the Christmas break plus generous maternity, adoption, paternity, and shared parental leave packages. *We offer a competitive pay structure with annual pay progression until you reach the top of the salary scale. We normally offer new employees the first point of the salary range, although you may be able to negotiate a higher starting salary depending on your skills, experience and current salary. What we deliver for our members is wide and varied so when it comes to how we work one size doesn’t fit all. We also know that to empower our people to do their best work, they must be able to balance the demands of work and home. We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs and many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. Departments and directorates have their own hybrid ways of working which put the needs of the service they deliver - whether that’s to members or to colleagues - at their heart, in alignment with our hybrid working core principles. At the RCN it’s unlikely you will work from home for all of your working time. Equally no one is expected to work solely in the office unless your role requires it. You can find out more by having a discussion with the recruiting manager.
