We are excited to offer the role of a Specialist Dietitian, to join our CEW team. We provide a service to Children and Young People (CYP) aged up to 16 years old, whom have complications with their health due to excess weight.

This service, funded by NHS England, is offered to CYP living across Lancashire & South Cumbria. Due to growing demand, we have recently received additional funding to expand the service. You will be based at Lancashire Teaching Hospital and will lead on the dietetic element of the complex obesity team.

The service will be led by a Consultant Paediatrician with a specialist interest in endocrinology, a specialist nurse, specialist dietitian, paediatric health coach, physiotherapists and will have access to clinical psychology. The job role will include supporting MDT clinics, nurse led clinics, community visits and inpatient admissions if necessary.

We will be evaluating the positive impact the service has for CYP, which in turn will provide national evidence to support the vision of the longevity of this national programme of care within the NHS.

Your transferable skills in engaging and supporting people can be utilised in empowering CYP living with complications of being overweight or obese, to make positive changes to their health and health behaviours with the aim of promoting a healthier weight.

The role will involve liaising with other health care professionals, social care, community and safeguarding teams. Teaching, audit, and research will also be encouraged.

Applicants should be HCPC registered and able to demonstrate significant post registration experience at a minimum of Band 6 level. Experience in childhood or adult obesity is ideal, however training can be provided to support you in this role. You should have excellent communication skills, including the ability to motivate and promote change as well as experience of MDT working.

We will be hosting clinics at Broadoaks CDC, Leyland and the base for the team is at Royal Preston Hospital. There will also be opportunities to work agilely, task dependant with the use of virtual technology.

You should be a car driver with access to a car.

You would join a team of over 35 experienced and forward-thinking Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants and Administrative staff.

Our Child Health Dietetic Team covers a busy general paediatric department that includes inpatients, outpatients, MDT clinics, group education sessions, the neonatal intensive care unit and community home enteral feeding. We are well established within the children’s and young people’s division and work closely with all members of the MDT.

We are committed to the continuing professional development of our team and will provide you with learning and development opportunities as part of your role. We are devoted to your wellbeing, with a number of Trust initiatives available to support staff.
- To provide dietetic services for children & young people with complex obesity, this will be mainly outpatient focussed but may include acute admissions to Lancashire Teaching Hospital.
- To be responsible for dietetic assessments and developing treatment plans for children and their families.
- As well as the clinical aspect the successful applicant will be involved in developing new pathways, evaluating the service, understanding patient experience and other quality improvement or research initiatives.
- To audit outcome and adjust treatment protocols accordingly and to participate in research in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
- To contribute to the continuous improvement of the management of complex obesity in young people through teaching and support of other health care professionals and acting as a source of dietetic expertise in the area of complex obesity.
