Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Officer

Established in 1899 George Jones & Son (Contractors) Limited have always specialised in commercial painting and decorating, it’s what we’re known for. In the time since, we have diversified and now offer several trades surrounding building maintenance and pre-paint repairs. Our specialism, however, is the cyclical pre-paint repair and redecoration of social housing, having completed over 150,000 in the last 20 years alone.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team, as we are currently recruiting an experienced Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Officer. In this role you will be expected to travel to cover all of our sites across the whole of the North West and across London and Kent. Ideally you will have completed a NEBOSH General Certificate, and will have experience of working in a painting / joinery / construction or a similar environment. You will have held a Health & Safety position for at least 2 years. Competence with Word and Excel are essential, as is a full clean driving licence.

George Jones employs 150 tradesmen, who are currently covering in excess of 20 contracts and we are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team at this exciting time. We work in a wide variety of market sectors including Local Authorities, Housing Associations (Social Housing), Health Authorities, Residential Homes, Schools, Universities and Colleges, also Government Departments, Specialist Projects for the Crown Estate and Facilities Management.

We provide painting, decorating and various maintenance services including pre-decorative repairs, upvc window and door replacement and fire door replacement, fencing / gate repairs and replacement, repairs to guttering, fascia and soffits, brickwork repairs and patch rendering. We pride ourselves on constantly growing and evolving to stay ahead of our competitors, and it is in fact our diverse and enthusiastic team who provide this drive and ambition.

The Principle duties:
- You will be working closely with and reporting to our Directors.

You will provide pro-active support and guidance to the business in relation to the implementation of our Health and Safety policy and procedures.

You will oversee health safety, quality and environmental control activities within the business.

You will be undertaking audits of company sites and producing post visit reports.

You will maintain all ISO, CHAS, Construction Line, Acclaim and other accreditations as required.

You will manage and administrate our use of our Health & Safety Management Systems.

You will undertake risk assessments and implement safe working practices for all activities.

You will investigate incidents ascertaining underlying causes and making recommendations for prevention of reoccurrences.

Desirable Skills:
- Highly organized and motivated individual.

Experience of working on site or in a similar environment, a track record of relevant experience, with some in a Health & Safety role.

Confident, polite and courteous when communicating with operatives, clients, directors and contractors, both verbally and in writing.

Good time management and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Ability to work individually and effectively as part of a team.

Must be willing to accept responsibility for completing designated tasks

Essential Skills & Qualifications

Minimum of Nebosh General Certificate

2 Years’ experience of working in a Health & Safety Role.

Excellent IT skills with competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

A full clean UK driving licence.

Flexibility to travel and cover Health and Safety activates on all sites.
