We have an exciting opportunity for a forward thinking Transport shift manager to join our Carlisle operation.
Reporting to the Transport Depot Manager, the function of the role is to preside over both the Planning and Operations teams during hours not covered by core operational staff, ensuring the workforce within both domains (including drivers) is safe, engagedand efficient in its practice.
What will I be responsible for?
- The daily Transport Plan /office by ensuring your Team carry out the following:

- Daily analysis of the P&L for each planning board
- Regular monitoring of Empty Legs information
- Regular monitoring of Microlise
- Monitoring status boards, analysing booked, planned and completed jobs
- Checking data requirements for internal systems are complete, taking remedial action if data is missing
- Communicate 'state of play' during conference calls raising concerns or challenges when they arise
- Briefing the team with all relevant information from UK Transport conference calls
- Provide leadership and guidance to the planning team and individual planners
- Liaise with the team in relation to WTD - creating & analysing reports, taking action where needed
- Ensuring that the agency trackers are kept up to
- Controlling the management of absence and holidays for the team
- Ensuring that all training needs for the staff are met (including inductions, re-training, GTS, Microlise and up to date legislation
- Delivering improved organisation capability through the Appraisal and 1-1 process
- Carrying out and supporting with depot administrative tasks
- Managing and supporting driver workforce whilst engaged on driving activities to ensure full legal compliance
- Promoting company Health & Safety and employment policies within the transport operation
- In conjunction with Customer Services, ensuring depot returns and rebooks are cleared from site as soon as practically possible
- Orchestrating site trailer checks and ensure data validity with appropriate actions and follow up are coordinated through shift
- Where necessary, attending network trailer calls to discuss stand trailer pool status across operational sites and compile and execute action points
What experience will I need?
As the Shift Manager you will have transferable experience in a similar position and have a strong background within the transport industry.
You will have excellent working knowledge on Microsoft office packages and ideally have experience in using in house transport systems.
You will be motivated, forward thinking, innovative and a strong communicator. You will ideally hold a CPC qualification, however this is not essential.
You will have excellent working knowledge of WTD and EU driving hour regulations.
