The key focus of this role will be to support the Shared Services Director, and be a true team player in working alongside the Shared Services leadership team. Through working closely with the Construction, Design and Commercial & Procurement teams, you will ensure Streetworks Compliance in the legacy, in-flight and future construction projects that occur during our ongoing national FTTP rollout.

The key responsibilities for this role include:
Developing a clear executable strategy for the department in line with the Principal Contractor model, whilst simultaneously maintaining all in flight/legacy Streetworks & Compliance duties in parallel

Bring the concept of mobilization and demobilization to life, ensuring all parties understand their contribution(s) during the life cycle of a project.

Ensure healthy performance through meaningful KPI’s, and build & maintain positive working relationships with the key external stakeholders within Local Authority Teams, Local Councils, County Councils and other authorities

Develop uniformed Processes, Policies & Procedures across the department, to ensure compliance and increase scope for efficiency & optimization. Crucially, be prepared to develop them as part of Continuous Improvement ethos.

Lead the development of MIS (Reporting) for the department, including the management and ongoing evolution of reports, dashboards and analytics for Shared Services. In order to be able to present business results, identify actionable issues and inform decision-making that affects the businesses performance.

Partner with your internal customers around the business, understanding who are our upstream dependencies (e.g. Design) & downstream dependents (e.g. Build) are, as part of the construction ‘funnel’

Accountable for the department’s budget, clearly understanding both the forecasted costs (& and actuals) and ensure cost neutrality where appropriate.

Create a high-performing teams ‘mentality’ in line with the ambitious growth plans of the business and the aim to have the lowest cost to serve, and be “the UK's most recommended way to connect”

Optimize our systems strategy, leveraging any available APIs and efficient means of cross system communication, thus improving process and efficiency.

Accountable for working with the Construction Leaders, to ensure Build Partners, comply with all permitting and reporting requirements (including local variances between LA’s) under the Principal Contractor model

Through education and effective coaching, be fully responsible for the quality of the Streetworks Compliance, including the quality of civils activities, the re-instatements and reparations works. Supported by the wider Streetworks Team

About you:
City & Guilds NWRSA Supervisors Accreditation or equivalent

Have a solid understanding of CDM (Construction Design Management) including the roles of a Principal Contractor, and Principal Designer.

Lean SixSigma Methodology, Continuous Improvement or Change Leadership qualification or experience

Experience of taking cost-center departments, and developing cost neutrality

Procurement and Commercial knowledge, in order to be able to develop cost savings, (e.g. system strategy)

Telecommunications experience (or equivalent in construction/energy sectors)

Demonstrable experience in risk prevention in order to protect the business from such as Section 65 prosecution, defects, defect inspection charges, permit fee waste, FPN and Section 74.

Exposure and experience of innovative civils techniques, such as Ditchwitch/mole plough/percussion mole etc.

Clear evidence of leading teams, and crucially leading leaders to ultimately create successful departments both in bespoke settings and at scale.
