**Job summary**:
To assist the Dispensary Manager in all areas to ensure the provision of quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to the patients of Bosvena Health, helping to review discounts and pricing to support effective financial returns for the dispensary.
**Key tasks**:
- Attendance at, and input to, Dispensary staff meetings, deputising for the Manager if required.
- Work with the Dispensary Manager to carry out monthly checking of the drug tariff for price and category changes, checking “MIMS” for new or discontinued drugs, and following up changes with drug company as required, consulting with the Dispensary Manager
- Liaise with the Primary Care Network Pharmacy team, and work with the Lead Pharmacist to ensure compliance with various areas: discharge medication for patients, drug switches or changes, and safety or medication recalls as required.
- Support the Dispensary manager in the completion of rotas and holiday allocation and recording if required.
Sorting prescriptions, checking endorsements, preparing forms, and submitting prescriptions monthly to the NHS Prescription Services; preparing vaccine list; dealing with prescriptions returned by the NHS Prescription Services if required.
- Oversee and provide management support to the Wholesaling business within Bosvena Health, working with Okay Trading and our wholesale partners to maximise income and turnover, remaining compliant with the requirements of the MHRA.
- Support the Responsible Person for wholesaling, and work with them to ensure SOPs and paperwork is correctly and adequately maintained.
- Provide operations management to the team on site and ensure that all dispensing is completed in a timely and efficient way, working to maintain a minimum of 3-day turnaround if possible.
- Work as member of the dispensary team, as needed to cover various tasks and roles, ensuing the efficient use of the time, and staffing to maintain a safe and efficient service for patients.
**Job responsibilities**:
**Purchasing and stock control**
Oversee the daily ordering of stock.
Ensuring goods are correctly delivered, unpacked, and added to stock within a timely manner.
Checking dispensary invoices against delivery notes and recording items for bonusing
Checking credit notes against returns and chasing outstanding credits
Maintain adequate stocks at main and branch surgeries, ensuring timely stock rotation.
Assist with the annual stock takes in dispensary, treatment room, CD cupboard and consulting rooms including the branch surgery.
Ensure the maintenance of out-of-date stock and box and price this stock.
**Prescriptions and prescription moneys**
Daily or delegated task: check prescriptions for signature/endorsements and sort into paid/unpaid by doctor
Weekly: submitting all unsigned prescriptions to the partners; generating nurses’ prescriptions for
Personally Administered items as required; oversee the sorting post-dated prescriptions
Daily or delegated task: cashing up prescription moneys, balancing and recording if required.
**Destruction of drugs**
Daily or delegated task: dealing with returned medication from patients.
Monthly: dealing with uncollected medication
Quarterly: dealing with returned controlled drugs from patients for destruction
Six monthly: work with the Dispensary Manager to deal with out-of-date controlled drugs with the appropriate officer from the PCN Pharmacy team for destruction.
**Dispensing**
Overseeing/checking colleagues dispensing
Taking prescription repeats via the telephone, over the counter.
Dispensing acute prescriptions for patients
Generating monthly repeat prescriptions for the practice, liaising with the relevant partners over any necessary changes in medication
Collecting prescription charges from patients
Dispensing “black-listed” medication, pricing, and recording
Dispensing private patients’ prescriptions, pricing, and entering on account cards, calculating private patients’ monthly accounts (including consultations) and submitting invoices
Removing out of date repeats from patients’ computerised repeat prescription lists
Re-batching drugs for repeat prescriptions
Preparing Nomad packs / MDS packs as required (including checking)
