- Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work
- Mix specified amounts of sand, clay, dirt, or mortar powder with water to form refractory mixtures
- Break or cut bricks, tiles, or blocks to size using hammers, chisels, or power tools
- Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools and finish mortar joints with jointing tools for a sealed appearance
- Clean excess mortar from brick surfaces using brushes or trowels

- Skilled in using hand tools such as trowels, hammers, chisels for precise brick placement
- Ability to read blueprints and follow construction plans
