**SOUTH MILFORD SURGERY - JOB DESCRIPTION**

JOB TITLE Dispenser

BASED AT South Milford, Bramham or branches as required

POSITION REPORTS TO Dispensary Supervisor

POSITION RESPONSIBLE FOR

**Job Summary ** o **To provide an efficient and accurate dispensing service to patients**:

- **To provide a responsive and friendly reception service for patients and visitors**

**while ensuring reception runs smoothly and efficiently when working at branches. ** o **To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.**:

- **To work in accordance of written protocols ** o **To observe strict confidentiality on all matters relating to the practice and it’s patients. ** o **To observe all requirements relating to CQC obligations and health & safety at work**

**To be a qualified Dispenser to NVQ level 2 with supporting certificate for our records**

**Key Responsibilities & Duties**

1. Dispensing medication according to agreed protocols

2. Checking dispensed medicines to agreed protocols, ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.

3. Travelling to and carrying out Front desk/dispensing duties at branch surgeries

4. Monitoring stock levels and re-ordering as required

5. Storing goods received in the agreed stock control rotation

6. Handling cash and cheques, balancing cash boxes to ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and banked and a record kept of all financial transactions

7. Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.

8. To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate.

9. To promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the dispensary manager according to practice policy.

10. To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.

11. To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.

12. To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.

13. To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature.

14. To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.

15. To deal with queries regarding dispensing from external and internal sources, such as relayed from patients, pharmacies or external agencies

16. To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.

17. Secure and lock buildings when last to leave

Front desk Responsibilities at Branch

1. To provide a timely, confidential and effective service of patient needs at first point of contact by greeting and directing patients in an approachable and friendly manner.

2. To provide a timely, confidential and effective service to patients when booking appointments; or booking visits as requested by patient representative at front desk.

3. To be responsible for the receipt of external post at front desk; and to open, sort and distribute as appropriate.

4. To be able to print off forms eg blood forms ; complaint forms ;etc and access for online registrations to give to patients as requested.

6. To be responsible for the emptying; and clearing of returned and not collected prescriptions and logging details on patient record; and for filing prescriptions.

Health & Safety:
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
- Test fire and main alarm as required
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Reporting potential risks identified.

The post holder will assist in promoting and maintaining the agreed outcomes of CQC registration and explained in the booklet ‘CQC & You’ and adhere to the policies and protocols relating to this, to include;
