Young Peoples Mental - ill - Health Worker will be based at 21 John Street, Llanelli and is a 35 hour a week post. There will be some evening and weekend work.

We will consider part time and job share.

Job Purpose: to provide a range of social and emotional support to young people with mental ill health, provide training on mental health issues for support staff and liaison person with statutory mental health services.

HOURS: 35 hours per week

SALARY: £23,114 - £24,521

Threshold DAS (formerly Llanelli Women’s Aid Ltd) was founded in 1984, by a group of volunteers. In 1985 the first refuge was established. In 2013 we became an accredited Agored Cymru Centre and secured European Social Funding (ESF), allowing us to deliver educational programmes for individuals, aiming to reduce economic inactivity in Carmarthenshire and convergence areas.

We have several projects working with children and young people.

The Children and Young Peoples Dedicated Crisis Counsellor is funded by Children in Need until March 2024.

Equally importantly, you should be exceptionally organised and methodical.

**The Role**

The children and young person’s Mental Ill Health Worker counsellor will provide support to young people who require crisis intervention counselling or therapeutic play (if age appropriate) from 5 - 19 years old.

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and has the ability to work under their own volition. You will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in what can be a challenging environment.

The mental Ill health worker will be required to work one evening a week and one Saturday morning every other week.

You will also be required to take part in the on-call rota.

**Main Duties**:
1. To provide social and emotional support to young people with mental health and associated problems. On a one to one and in a group setting.

2. Working as an advocate for young people 11-24 who have mental ill health issues when young people access outside support agencies, so they feel that there is someone on their side.

3. To participate in the assessment of need and the development of individual support plans in conjunction with service users and other relevant agencies.

4. To assist with voluntary and / or self-help groups and community projects in the area, as appropriate.

5. Make written and verbal presentations of support assessments where required in accordance with the Confidentiality Policy.

6. Undertake risk assessments in accordance with the policy of Threshold DAS and present in a written and verbal manner where required.

7. The emphasis of early intervention, support, and guidance, and through accessing the appropriate services, preventing serious episodes of mental ill health occurring.

8. The development and delivery of a series of informal workshops for service users with identified mental health problems; will enable service users to become more aware of their own mental health.

9. The worker will assist in identifying training needs relating to mental health for all staff, to ensure comprehensive support for the young people Threshold DAS works with and to support staff in their work with service users with identified mental health problems.

10. The worker will deliver to staff a series of workshop training events relating to specific mental health issues.

11. Ensure that all actions necessary are taken to prevent un-necessary periods of crisis and mental ill health in conjunction with service user and relevant agencies.

12. Ensure that each young person builds and sustains a formal and an informal support network that can enable the service user to manage their mental well-being.

13. To work co-operatively with Social Services, Health and non-statutory services within the Carmarthenshire Authority area in order to promote the service and Threshold DAS ’s presence in the area.

14. To provide Mental Health training for staff at Threshold DAS.

15. Deliver support and assistance to each service user in accordance with the philosophies and policies of Threshold DAS.

16. Ensure that all support notes are written up, signed and filed at the end of each session and that each file contains all relevant information on each tenant as per Threshold DAS policy.

17. Participate in regular team meetings and individual supervision.

18. Ensure that relevant statutory workers are included in the individual support plan and that a contract between workers has been signed.

19. Ensure that quarterly monitoring is completed for each service user as in accordance with Threshold DAS policies and funding requirements
