The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 9-5, and participation in weekend and public holiday working and extended hours service.
The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK and is home to major specialist services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery, with state-of-the-art Critical Care, Theatre and Diagnostic Services. The Royal Hospital for Children is adjoined to the adult hospital and has 244 paediatric beds with a further 12 neonatal beds in the maternity unit. This hospital provides a large number of specialist services to the West of Scotland and the wider population of Scotland in addition to a full range of secondary care services including cardiology and cardiac surgery, renal and bone marrow transplantation. For a number of these services, the children’s hospital is recognised as the sole provider in Scotland.
We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive individual to join our friendly and supportive pharmacy team in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services to a variety of clinical areas at the front door of the adult hospital including Accident & Emergency, Acute Receiving and the Immediate Assessment Unit. You will ensure the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients, co-ordinate and manage ward top-up services and be responsible for recycling & redistributing non-stock medicines that have been ordered for patients, helping to ensure that missed doses are avoided. You will also facilitate the transfer of patients own medicines to downstream wards to help reduce duplicate ordering, reduce drug expenditure and potential subsequent waste. You will dispense medicines for patients being discharged from hospital and support nursing staff with good housekeeping of medicines.
You will be an integral member of the pharmacy team and work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team including nurses, medical staff, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. You will also be responsible for the direct line management of one or more pharmacy support workers.
You must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written and be able to organise and prioritise your own workload and the workload of others. An SVQ/NVQ Level 2 pharmacy qualification or demonstrable training to equivalent level and 2 years’ experience of working in a pharmacy setting is essential along with good IT skills.
Experience of managing staff and working in hospital pharmacy is desirable however full training will be provided.
If you think you have the required skills for this post and would like more information or an informal chat, please contact David Hughes, Lindsay Cassidy or Aileen Begley, Pharmacy Team Leads on 0141 452 2971
