You will have a specific UKRI office where you’re based. You may need to occasionally travel to other locations, such as other UKRI offices or research participants’ offices for your role. If so, the costs will be covered by us.

**Help grow and shape user centred design at UKRI**

We’re a team of 4 researchers in a community of nearly double that, working with growing teams of service designers, interaction designers and content designers.

Your initial focus on our digital transformation projects.

You'll be working in a multidisciplinary agile team, where you’ll be leading on the planning and delivery of user research activities for the team. You’ll have a lot of autonomy and support from the team, as well as UKRI’s Head of User Research.

We use Confluence, Jira, Slack and Miro to collaborate with teams. Research Operations is taking shape too as we move to using Condens and Consent Kit, as well as Optimal Worksop and Hotjar.

**Who we are**

We stimulate and support research and innovation through funding and other means. We do this using the science budget of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

We’re made up of nine parts (research councils), each with their own area of specialism.

**What you’ll do**

As a user researcher at UKRI you'll:

- Plan, design and prepare a range of user research activities to support the design, development and continuous improvement of services
- Carry out user research activities: from recruiting participants and preparing discussion guides, to running research sessions and analysing results
- Lead colleagues to analyse research data and synthesise clear and actionable findings, including working closely with analytics colleagues to create a rich picture of user behaviour
- Communicate user research findings to help the team and wider organisation develop a deep understanding of users and their needs - including presentations at show-and-tells, designing and maintaining research outputs, and creating formal reports
- Work closely with product managers, designers and developers to turn user research findings into stories and actions that lead to valuable product and service features
- Contribute to the wider user research community, including presenting at meet ups and writing blog posts
- Champion user-centred design principles and best practice within UKRI.

**Who you are**

We're interested in people who have:

- Experience and understanding of a range of user research methods
- The ability to understand what problem your team is trying to solve and plan and deliver user research activities to inform decision making and action
- Experience and understanding of a range of techniques for analysis of research data, synthesis of findings, and presentation of clear findings so that colleagues can understand and use them
- A good understanding of the diversity of users, and the ability to include many types of users in appropriate research activities
- Experience of working with colleagues to plan and do continuous user research in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of involving your team in research activities, and in analysis and synthesis
- Understanding, and ideally experience of, agile approaches.

**How you'll be assessed**

We’ll be looking at your experience, career history and achievements that are relevant to the specific job role. We may assess your ability, strength, experience, technical/specialist skills and behaviours.

For this role the following behaviours are the most relevant:

- Working together
- Communicating and influencing
- Delivering at pace
- Seeing the big picture
- Developing self and others.
