We are looking for an Education Officer to join the Education team at RSPCA Stapeley Grange. 2024 is a big year for us as the RSPCA turns 200 years young We are proud of our long standing history in campaigning for a better world for animal welfare. We were the first to introduce a law to protect animals and have been working hard ever since to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering. Through our campaigns we raise standards of care, and awareness of issues, affecting animals today. As an Education Officer, you will be joining the Community Engagement Team, and reporting into the Community Engagement Manager.
- Working hours: 30 hours per week term time, 42 weeks, 12 month contract: working hours are generally 09:00 am until 15:00 weekdays, however flexibility with some evening and weekend work is required to meet the needs of the business.
- Onsite: Your base will be at Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre.

What a day might look like for you

Here at **RSPCA **we know it's a cliche but no two days are the same, as an Education Officer we've added a short summary of what a typical day might look like, for a full insight please refer to the attached job description.

The work of our Education Hub is split into two strands. Our Outreach Officer works in the field delivering sessions to communities in the North West region. Whilst our site based Education Officers deliver innovative projects at Stapeley Grange, with some outreach in the local community, that aims to nurture and encourage the values of kindness and compassion towards all animals.

Joining our existing Education Officer, Outreach Officer and Casual staff, this role will involve the development and delivery of animal welfare education sessions and activities for children, teenagers and adults. There will be a focus on delivery onsite including 1:1 work on our Virtual School Programme, small group and whole class sessions (typically primary school age), visits from colleges, universities, community groups, community events and work with volunteers. There will also be work in our immediate area on local outreach involving community groups, schools and nurseries. You will also be involved in work to maintain and utilise the newly relocated award winning RSPCA RHS Chelsea Garden, for educating about wildlife gardening for focus groups and activities within your sessions.

What makes a great Education Officer
- Teaching/youth work qualification or equivalent experience of working with children or young people in a relevant setting.
- Experience of working in outdoor education, with evidence of practical skills.
- Experience in delivering/assisting with public facing events and outreach.
- Experience of working with looked after children or vulnerable young people who are deemed ‘at risk' and/or who present behaviours that challenge.
- An interest and/or working experience in emotional support and wellbeing.
- First aid, Safeguarding and Attachment training.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, in particular an ability to network and develop good relationships with stakeholders, children and young people.
- Experience of working or volunteering in the charity sector
- An enthusiastic, can-do attitude with a passion for nature, the outdoors and animal welfare.

**Interview process**

Please note there will be a two stage interview process for this role which will involve;
- A virtual competency based interview with two panel members on the 19th **or** 20th March.
- Those who have progressed following on from a successful 1st interview will be invited to a second interview with a task to prepare in advance, a site tour and to meet the team on 26th March.
