Lock Keeper

Role Description

Duty controller of lock and footbridge to ensure the safety of vessels entering and leaving the harbour and the safe passage of pedestrians using the footbridge.
- **This is lone working role with day and night shift working.**:

- **This position is a part time job share role.**:
Shift work pattern including 12-hour night and day shifts, weekend, and Bank Holiday working. Shift pattern is 3-day shifts, 3 off, 3-night shifts, 15 off and repeat. Average 21 hours per week with the opportunity for absence and holiday cover overtime. Salary £15,670 (£14.35/h) pa pro rata. Good holiday, good pension scheme and staff insurances.
- To operate the bridge and lock controls situated in the lock building.
- To ensure the lock and bridge are in good working order at all times, reporting any faults.
- To conduct emergency procedures if the main power supply fails to the lock.
- To operate and monitor the CCTV systems throughout the harbour to maintain security by liaising with police and security companies as necessary.
- To assist with the mooring of vessels within the lock confines when required.
- To operate the VHF radio and direct traffic flow into and out of Sutton Pool.
- To work as part of a team, with lock keepers, fish market staff and berthing team.

- GCSE or equivalent (required)

Licence/Certification:

- VHF user certificate (required)
