Duties designated
Job Purpose
- Under the instruction of appropriate senior staff, assist in the maintenance, cleanliness and security of school premises and the provision of school events and lettings, ensuring a safe working environment
- Participate in, and support, embedding Restorative Approaches across the school - Support the school’s vision, aims and objectives and implement school policies and procedures
- Contribute to the success of the School Improvement Plan
- Carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Headteacher
Duties and Responsibilities:
Security
- Lock/unlock school buildings and facilities outside normal school hours
- Maintain the security of school premises by securing entrances/exits as appropriate and reporting potential security breaches
- Operate alarm systems where appropriate
- Ensure that clients are following lettings protocol
- Provide emergency access to the school site
Maintenance
- Assist with statutory compliance testing including fire safety equipment
- Assist with minor repairs to school building, facilities and equipment
- Operate heating plant, cooling and lighting systems
- Maintain the swimming pool and other specialist sports equipment
- Undertake school vehicle driver checks
- Refill and replace consumables e.g., soap & towels
- Report faulty equipment & other maintenance requirements to appropriate person
- Liaise with external contractors working on site ensuring full compliance with permits to work
Cleaning
- Collect and assemble waste for collection
- Undertake cleaning duties including litter-picking and biohazard emergency cleaning
- Ensure that pathways and all other external hard surface areas are kept clean, free of litter and that they are gritted or salted when required during wintry conditions
Organisation
- Assist with school events and lettings, liaising with clients to follow up any issues
- Undertake porter duties e.g., delivering mail, moving furniture and equipment
- Maintain and arrange orderly and secure storage of supplies and equipment - Drive school vehicles where necessary
- Operate everyday equipment in accordance with instructions
- Undertake examination invigilation as directed by the Examinations Manager
- Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and productive working environment
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with health and safety policies and procedures at all times and take reasonable care for the health and safety of self and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions and comply with all health and safety legislation as appropriate
- Promote and ensure the health and safety of pupils, staff & visitors (in accordance with appropriate health & safety legislation) at all times
Resources
- Ensure lights and other equipment are switched off as appropriate and windows are closed
- Operate office equipment such as photocopier, computer and telephone system
- Operate relevant equipment/ ICT packages
Whole School Organisation, Strategy and Development
- Comply with core school policies including health and safety; confidentiality, safeguarding and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures in such a way as to support Fitzalan’s values and vision
- Be a mentor to identified pupils
- Support and attend school Open Evenings
- Attend and contribute to appropriate meetings, as guided by your line manager
- Promote the safety and well-being of pupils, including participating in Restorative Approaches
- Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school
- Undertake additional administrative duties as part of the School’s Support Team and assume other duties which may reasonably be required or delegated by the Headteacher from time to time
Professional Development
- Participate in arrangements for the review of own performance
- Participate in arrangements for own further training and professional development
In addition, the post holder will:
- Follow school and LA child protection and safeguarding procedures
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your acts or omissions and comply with all health and safety legislation as appropriate
- Participate actively in supporting the principles and practice of equality of opportunity as laid down in the school Equalities Policy
- Follow all school and LA policies
- Follow conditions or regulations issued by Cardiff Council relating to your contract of employment
