Channel 4’s Finance team has a vision of being trusted advisors, enabling informing decision-making through insightful analysis, expert opinion and timely and accurate reporting.
- **JOB DESCRIPTION and PURPOSE**
- The Head of Commercial Finance is part of the Channel 4 leadership team and a senior member of the finance team. They will be expected to deputise for the CFO as necessary.- Ensures that finance is actively contributing to each of the strategic pillars that underpin the Fast Forward Strategy - evaluating business cases for investment and subsequent post investment reviews.
- Leads the delivery of in-depth financial analysis for Channel 4 to support its Fast Forward Strategy - including the creation and tracking of KPI’s to measure progress.
- Works with the business leaders to drive financial performance by proactively identifying risks and opportunities, developing options to ensure that Channel 4 meets its financial targets and key metrics.
- Identifies opportunities to deploy analytics across big data to spot patterns and trends that will support decision making.
- Builds collaborative relationships with the Executive, is able to contribute to key strategic developments and decisions, providing sound insight and judgement
- Provides succinct written and verbal communication, that simplifies complex financial information for a broad range of stakeholders
- Act as an independent (and well informed) voice to the CFO, COO and CEO in such meetings as the Quarterly Business Reviews, reforecasts, annual budget and strategy discussions
- Leads the financial planning process: long range plan, budget and forecast - continuously innovating to improve the output across all key financial metrics
- Act as a Deputy to the CFO as needed and works closely with the finance leadership team to transform the finance organisation, across all dimensions including people, systems and processes.
- Identifies opportunities to simplify financial systems and processes, constantly innovating to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance operating model

The Head of Commercial finance with have a team of c15, and access to a shared resource of management accountants.
- **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Finance Business Partnering**

Finance Business Partnering is the team of senior finance managers who are the C4 executives dedicated finance resource. The key pillars are advertising, content, marketing and operations. Each “pillar” Head will have dedicated FP&A analytical resource at their disposal.
- The Head of Commercial Finance will be required to lead, inspire, motivate, develop and guide these individuals as they support the C4 organisation and its executives. Specific responsibilities include;
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all Heads of Departments and the senior executives of Channel 4 to ensure the constant and timely (2 way) flow of financial information & business analysis
- Ensure the CFO, COO and CEO remain across key developments, priorities, and financial plans from each of the key pillars
- Challenge & question with data to ensure that Channel 4 makes the right commercial decisions that will underpin its financial sustainability
- Develop the reputation of commercial finance as a strong business partner & enabler
- Monitor and understand external economic factors and the impact these KPIs may have on C4’s long term financial strategy
- Build relationships with industry analysts and external sources to help predict trends in the UK advertising market - deploy big data as necessary to improve the accuracy of Channel 4’s predictions

**Financial Planning & Analysis**

Lead the planning and delivery of consolidated, forward looking strategic information and agreed financial plans, including:

- The delivery of the annual budgeting process, including a directional ‘First View’ of the following year and the delivery of the “in year” forecasts (F1, F2 and F3)
- Core financial analysis for the group including 12 month rolling cash forecast, Capex, channel/new business profitability reporting.
- Leading the delivery of the Strategic Plan updates, which is a three year contextual outlook and detailed analytical review across all areas of the business, working closely with the strategy & commercial teams
- Manage and maintain the key risks and opportunities to our current financial forecasts (P&L and Cash) and ensure the Exec Group are regularly updated
- Coordination of quarterly business performance reviews held with the CEO committee
