Role Summary/Job Purpose Under the direction and supervision of the Sister/Charge Nurse or his/her nominated deputy the post holder will work as an integral member of the departmental team undertaking general housekeeping duties to provide and maintain a safe, tidy, clean, well maintained and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff. To establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with nursing, medical, technical, ancillary and administration colleagues. To support, in a non-clinical way, those who provide direct clinical care and assist in the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare. To monitor quality standards in relation to cleanliness in the clinical area, participate in environmental audits, report deficiencies and take appropriate action.

Challenge others who do not adhere to Infection Prevention & Control standards. Act as a liaison and co-ordinate services provided by Estates and Facilities and work collaboratively with support services departments. All staff are expected to act as role models to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate that they adhere to the principles and behaviours integral to The Walton Way values of Dignity, Caring, Respect, Pride and Openness. Key Responsibilities Patient Focused Care Being courteous and helpful to patients, families, colleagues and all users and visitors to the Unit.

Provide refreshments to patients and families where appropriate. Support the ward team with essential tasks to enhance patient care i.e. linen allocation, equipment cleanliness and reporting of faults etc. Assist in ensuring that each bed space is prepared for the arrival of a new admission to the unit i.e.

checking the area is clean, rubbish removed etc. Alert nurse in charge to aspects of dissatisfaction from patients i.e. complaints Environmental Maintain and promote a safe working environment. Report any damaged equipment and required maintenance repairs to Shift Coordinator/Team Leader.

Maintain daily temperature checks of all fridges and report any discrepancy. Assist the clinical staff in ensuring the staff room is clean and tidy before and after main staff break times. Ensure changing room areas are clean and tidy. Promote a safe working environment by ensuring all storage areas are kept clean and tidy and free from clutter.

Ensure main reception desk, corridor alcove and bay area island are kept clean, tidy and free from clutter. Ensure visitors rooms are keep clean and tidy. In accordance with Trust policy, maintain a flushing regime and completion of required documentation for all areas where outlets are not operated on a regular basis. Catering Arrange, co-ordinate and collect additional food as requested by the patient in liaison with the nurse responsible for the patient.

Ensure that food is temperature probed prior to each meal and to take appropriate action should the food not reach the required temperature. To maintain records of food temperatures testing. Assist ward staff in serving meals. Be responsible for the management and storage of unit food supplies.

Stocks and Supplies Assist other staff to unpack stocks and supplies where necessary recording items delivered. Rotate stock to ensure usage of supplies as directed. Ensure the clean and dirty utility areas are well stocked, clean and tidy and free from inappropriate items on a daily basis. Cleaning Clean medical equipment i.e.

commodes, pumps, mattresses, special beds, patient monitors, etc. Liaise with Infection Control Team regarding additional cleaning, i.e. isolation room, bed space terminal cleans Report and log any pest control issues Ensure all stackers, shelving and storage units in the clinical area are kept dust free and check expiry dates of contents as per schedule Perform high level cleaning using appropriate equipment e.g. top of bed space Ponta system, high windowsills.

Liaise with the domestic cleaning team regarding areas which require special attention. Linen Check the daily linen top up service for quantity and quality, ensuring adequate supplies, reporting issues to linen services. Ensure linen is stored correctly and the linen room kept tidy, clean, restocked and free from clutter. Ensure that used linen is disposed of correctly.

General Duties Monitor lost property and manage the return of such to patients.
