ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Theatre Manager, our Theatre Runner will support the delivery of high quality and high-volume cataract surgery. You will assist the wider theatre team to ensure the patient journey runs as smoothly as possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing the relationship with the patient and the provision of appropriate information to them, ensuring that exceptional patient care is delivered.
- To assist in the preparation of theatre equipment and instrumentation prior to a surgical list commencing
- Assist the team in positioning patient for surgery and moving equipment
- To assist the scrub nurse and surgeon in Theatre
- Attend and participate in team meetings, briefing and debriefing as required
- To assist with the administrative function of the surgical team including the accurate documentation of records
- Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed
- To carryout theatre preparation of patient documentation
- Assist in weekly/monthly stock checks, including checking expiry dates and re-stocking the clinical area
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

What skills and experience do I need for the role?

Personal:

- The post holder will ideally have experience working in a theatre environment.
- Assist in the routine delivery of care and organisation of the theatres for clinical procedures and practice.
- Have good working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel and Databases
- Contribute to the overall good of the organisation by being a positive role model and treat all staff, visitors, consultants and service users with courtesy and respect.

Technical:

- Good standard of education; GCSE/O Levels or higher.
- A passion for patient care.
- Proven administrative skills including the ability to follow processes.
- Excellent computer skills. Comfortable with Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn.
