A vacancy for an Specialist in Fluids Modelling & Simulation has arisen within Airbus in Filton - UK.

The scope of this role is focused on enhancing our skill base and capability in flammability computational modelling and related mitigations. You will experience fuels and technology on the cutting edge of feasibility; including Sustainable Aviation Fuels and the steps we will take to prepare our Hydrogen ambition by the end of this decade. You will also experience our legacy fuel system functionality, continued airworthiness activities and prepare analysis of potential sustainable fuels onto aircraft flying today.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Fluids modelling and simulation activities, working closely with both the Expert in Modelling & Simulation and the Expert in Inerting Systems to provide high quality analysis for our customers.
- Independently conducting flammability exposure analyses for conventional Jet A and SAF fuels.
- Predicting inert gas flow behaviour, mixing and flow rate estimates using both 3D and 1D simulation tools. This includes distribution within fuel tanks and interspaces around H2 distribution lines.
- Providing technical data to support decision making across Airbus.
- Working across all programmes and R&T to deliver modelling studies, drawing recommendations and next steps to inform future work.
- Contribute to the long term strategy of the department through:

- Interfacing daily with engineers on both the fluid & control sides of fuel systems modelling.
- Developing and sharing knowledge related to the integration of the Flammability Reduction System (or Inerting System) on future and legacy aircraft with a view to obtaining a technical approval signatory within 3 years.
- Acting as a custodian for our legacy and future analysis capabilities, including Monte Carlo Simulations, 1D & 3D CFD models and bespoke scripts.
- Deploying rigorous, transparent processes for version control, storage and recovery of our models and input/output data sets. Essential for continued airworthiness and certification of Airbus products.
- Sharing your vision for software / toolset development strategy and providing guidance to new and existing users of the flammability analysis toolset.
- Contributing to the overall vision and strategy for fluids modelling and thermal simulation, embracing a community of like minded engineers beyond the perimeter of the team and current organisational boundaries.

**Technical Experience**:

- Degree, or equivalent in engineering, with experience in software development and / or thermofluids modelling.
- Experience analysing thermal, mixing & combustion (or associated) phenomena.
- Strong experience working with teams in a variety of programming languages with a focus on tool integration and improving user experience.
- Track record for curiosity and innovation - benchmarking methods against other industries and keeping abreast of latest developments in modelling and simulation.
- Project experience from requirement definition to certification, through all levels of the V&V diagram: Aircraft to Component. Functional to Physical.

**Experience with following tools**:

- Matlab is essential
- Python would also be beneficial
- 3-D CFD (Fluent or Star CCM+) experience is beneficial
- 1-D fluid analysis tools (FloMaster or Amesim) experience is beneficial
